Basically what I'm getting at, is that Batman minds are better at discussing mangas than Barbie minds.
It's a simple observation based on a single and simple metric:
To stay on topic, and to go off topic.

Batman minds stay on topic
Barbie minds go off topic

I'm surely biased on this, because I'm Batman minded,
but my entertainment in going inside series or chapters discussions, is to see if others have noticed things I missed, or to read how the story gets fleshed out more by the fans, or to understand better some parts of it, or again, to see speculations and predictions about the future of what could happen next.

All of those things which make manga discussions interesting for me (and supposedly for most of other Batman minds) is something only the Batman minds can provide, because all of those things above require to stay on the topic of the story of the serie, and to understand correctly what is going on inside the story.
Barbie minds are not able to do any of that, because by going offtopic they lose any coherence with the story, so any of their attempts at doing discussion or speculation (assuming they even try, which they often don't) can only result in deepfried air, which is a way to say empty nonsense. But the Barbie minds don't even try to actually discuss, they simply talk about something else, which is not the story nor the topic at hand.
On the long run, the unrelated offtopic noise of the Barbie minds gets dull and tedious, if you're looking for real discussion, because to find a post actually talking about the serie you have to filter past many unrelated posts, which are really no different from spam.

But that's just my take on that initial conclusion, there is probably more to take out of the idea of Batman minds and Barbie minds applied to manga and anime discussions inside online communities.

At this point you’ve shifted from describing different engagement styles to ranking them as “better” or “worse” based entirely on what you personally value in discussion.

Calling one group “on-topic” and the other “spam” isn’t an observation about cognition it’s a normative judgment about who you think belongs in fandom spaces.

Manga and anime communities have always included analysis, emotional reactions, shipping, meta, and creative play. Declaring large portions of that as incoherent noise doesn’t demonstrate superior engagement with the text; it just narrows “real discussion” to your own preferences.

At that point this stops being an interesting question and becomes simple gatekeeping, which I’m not interested in continuing. (whoever was defending this I hope your mind has changed)

y'know, with threads like these, I usually just don't bother interacting with them, because I don't know anything, so I refuse to say anything

and for the person posting these threads, I usually try to assume good faith

but c'mon, man...

I think you both may be overthinking this, bringing inside "scientific consensus" seems asinine to me, given we're meta talking about manga discussions, but you do your things.

And also keep in mind, Batman minds and Barbie minds are also posting in this thread right now, there is always a silent battle taking place between on-topic vs off-topic, so don't take everything at face value and move with caution

I like characters who do cool shit and I want to also do cool shit.

My favorite role model? The Man with No Name, played by Clint Eastwood, in the classic Spaghetti Westerns.
That's a classy choice

This stopped being descriptive and became evaluative. Labeling some engagement as “noise” is a preference about moderation, not an insight about how people think. just proving a point

@medalion The thread should just be taken down because its sexist and dumb.
Typical Barbie mind reaction, going offtopic and then using the offtopic material to try to doom the entire thread.

But this also illustrated what I was talking about in OP.
Needless to say that pointing out the silent attempts of the Barbie minds to derail discussions is taboo, and often triggers very strong reactions, as far as most online discussions go in my experience, it's a very common behaviour.

Labeling criticism as “Barbie mind” and then treating that label as proof of your claim is circular.

Raising concerns about a thread’s framing isn’t off-topic; it’s a normal part of community discussion. When disagreement is reclassified as derailment by definition, the framework becomes unfalsifiable and stops being a discussion at all.

At that point, the labels aren’t describing behavior they’re being used to dismiss it.

lmao barbie mind and bat man mind wtf is up with this world

It's one of the possible logical continuations of it.

Batman minds = taking on themselves the traits of the object of admiration = paying attention to the traits of the object of admiration = stay on topic inside manga discussions, going deeper into the story and characters
Barbie minds = deforming the object of interest to adapt to pre-existing personal traits = not paying attention to the actual traits of the character or story = going off topic inside manga discussions, by adding external unrelated matters

take your pills cause this is a genuine nonsensical babble.

The last few posts made me realize an other side of the main topic analogy, which I missed before.

Not all off-topic may be caused by Barbie minds.

There are at least two different possible sources. But surely more than two.
Off topic is done actively by Barbie minds, because of natural inclination.
Off topic may be done accidentally also by Batman minds, whenever confusion and misjudgement of the topic arises.

It could be possible to also add in "trolling behaviour" as a third source of topic derailment, assuming it's done again by Batman minds, because it would be redundant to say a Barbie mind is trolling, but trolling still falls inside the "confusion" group, so it's still all the second alternative to off-topic "engagement".

Expanding the sources doesn’t change the circular logic: the framework still defines groups by behavior and then uses that behavior to explain the groups. That’s tautological, not analytical.

This is classic obfuscation and self-serving framing

Wondering if and what role do the "simps" play inside this interpretation of online discussion dynamics.

Roughly defined, simps are those who tag along other posters, regardless of their personal reaction to the main topic.

Obviously, simps can be either Batman minded and Barbie minded. And their reactions are just imitations of their leader.
So their real mindset becomes irrelevant during the discussion, to the point a Barbie mind could engage in discussion almost in the same way a Batman mind would, if the Barbie mind is simping for a Batman mind.
Likewise for a Batman mind acting like a Barbie mind, if the object of the simping is a Barbie mind.

But then I wonder if the initial thread assumptions about the different ways to manage interest and attention could also influence the simping itself.
To say, would a Batman mind really simp in the same way a Barbie mind would?
And how would that affect online discussions where simping is part of the elements taking part in the discussion?

Adding simps just broadens the framework without fixing the core circular logic: any behavior can now be explained by definition.
