The thing is I feel like this is kind of a weird thing to leave in the TL. If this were an official release, wouldn't they just localize it to something like

"Career Mode ON" or "Super Pro Mode ON" etc etc.

There's all sorts of configurations that could better communicate it I think, without being "Bari Caree" which reads literally as gibberish but also feels significantly more esoteric than say, leaving in "kun" and "senpai".

I do get that it's the TL's preference (I was once on the apparent 'wrong' side of "isn't kyuudou just archery?") but it does make me wonder.

i see what you mean, and this manga is also the first time i've encountered the term as far as i'm aware. while i'm not necessarily for changing the TL at this point in the story, i do think most scanlators would opt to translate it as just "Career mode" or something similar (possibly along with a TL note at the end of the chapter that explains the term).

It is sadly not uncommon for some people to believe so, especially for those who grew up with broken households of have had multiple consecutive bad relationships. They start seeing romantic relationships as something fragile and unlasting, it's like the opposite of idealisation. That's why they try to cling to friendships more because they tend to last longer.
