These historic (nobility) romance stories often have decent princes, as long as they aren't the original betrothed, and even then, the girl will usually end up with a better prince of a rival or greater country (although maybe 5% of the time, they just end up with a normal knight (usually it isn't normal knights though, usually more secret royalty, etc))

I was thinking that I like how the author handled her original fiance.

First because instead of just having him do stuff to disgust the audience willy nilly she gave him a realistic deal: guy who acts like he hates you but also won't let you leave.

Second because him not actually wanting to be with the stepsister sorta makes him resemble a type of ML I thoroughly dislike. Like oh this ML has been a total asshole to MC for years but he secretly likes her and never cheated on her so he's redeemable. Feels good to see a dude like that get treated as a villain.
