The reveal that Tetsuo had an extra croquette behind his back way back really drives that dagger home.
Whatever friction exists between them, then and now--I look forward to seeing it being resolved in whatever manner that may be.

But they're both correct. Some food is best enjoyed with another.

Thanks for the TL

I mean, Tetsuo really likes Miko. The classic teenage boy can't be honest with the girl he likes. Even as adults, she's a big part of the reason why he keeps trying to improve his cooking even now despite having absolutely zero talent. I believe he's trying to get her to acknowledge his skill before he finds the courage to just confess already. Though he is a total dunce and the ship have might already left because of how long he's taking

Amazing detail that school Tetsuto was shorter than Miko. That just reinforces the difference in class, the difference in talent, and the difference in maturity. Even now that Tetsuto is a grown-ass man, I bet Miko still sees him as the short boy. Chef's Kiss.

always wanted to try a JP style croquette even if it's just the konbini kind (shame the 711 here doesn't have anything but instant ramen tho i did see a recent 'jp style sandwich' with like kewpie mayo) , did try a korean one altho greasiness aside i did have to take out like some strong tasting mushroom but the glass noodles inside that was good

lol i wonder how many restaurants get told 'keep the change' considering JP doesn't have a tipping culture but hopefully it's split between the employees fairly if so versus a manager keeping it all

i mean cooking is more of a 'skill' than than talent (even if some ppl might be 'naturally' better at it and innovative at unique flavors but i'd hope that hardwork would be good, altho i feel like his style of cooking might be appealing to her compared to the 'fancy' stuff the other chefs give her since he comes from a more humble background)

we haven't seen her cook yet surprisingly but while i'm sure she's also 'formally trained' and all that in regards to tasting and analyzing food, she's basically a nepo baby (considering she ran off crying and thinking to herself 'you dummy' one could argue she's not more mature, just better at hiding it compared to him who wears his heart on his sleeve)

https://mangadex.org/title/880ebb34-acc1-447f-8774-c91ad060c397/ojousama-no-kindan-yorimichi-gohan wonder if she'd get along with the main girl from here lol

No, it's not a lack of training, he legit has no talent. A chef has training to be able to identify flavors and cook things but it takes talent to grasp how to replicate and improve upon something merely by tasting it. He just absolutely sucks at making fancy food (we don't know what sort of pub food he makes), but what he does great at is actually customer service. But because of his pride and a childhood promise, he's stuck trying to cook something for her that she'll like. Unfortunately he only knows the rich fancy side of her so instead of just cooking what he likes and is good at he keeps trying to match what he thinks she likes.

ah its been a while since i read his intro chapter but hopefully he does get better

we know she doesn't care for fancy food anyways so even if he 'succeeded' with that i can imagine him still getting criticized, but it'd be interesting if he did open a temporary stand at like a local festival serving something 'common' where she fangirls over it in disguise lol

NGL, before they said what it was, I thought it was a hash brown patty due to the shape.

It's still really fucking funny that the (possible) romantic interest is a fucking early 90s hot blooded manga protagonist

@Claresilver47 @EchoGirl

Building off your comments, one of the main themes of this manga is "Performative High Tastes" versus "Enjoyable and authentic low tastes." Miko hates the personality she adopts as a strict, genius food critic. But she keeps doing it to maintain her job and her status. Tetsuto thinks his low food needs to be elevated to michelin star level, so he can match the image he has of Miko. She's fantasizing while looking down; he's fantasizing while looking up.

There's space for them to meet in the middle somewhere. Imagine a scene where she tastes his normie food and it's the first time she tells him his cooking is delicious, like Echogirl mentioned.

Thanks for the TL. First chapter in a while that hasn't made me super hungry because croquettes just aren't my fave. I'll do pan fried gyoza again for dinner tonight instead.

@Ase16 two notes - should probably be 23rd instead of 23th on the title page (unless there's a joke I'm missing) and I think you forgot your TL notes page.
