Introducing a childhood friend's one-sided dynamic to bro with an upskirt definitely was a thing that happened. I guess this is the chapter I can tell the series isn't for me. Stock harem tropes (not saying this fits the tag) in chill slice-of-life make a few parts duller for me (typical objections). Yet what comes off as desperate to me can be just different and no worse taste than me. Which makes me overthink the whole chapter and how there's no individual aspect that's 100% turned me off any series, for better or for worse.

Not saying your taste is wrong, or anything like that. It was just interesting it took me a bit to get to reasons past knee-jerk feelings trolls stop at.

Gotta say the sibling dynamic in particular was pretty fun. Not incest but tbh they'd probably be fun squabbling over that too. I'm in the leave-the-literal-translation camp, or use "bro". Good pacing for 8 chapters as well.

I think it just felt a bit off to me because I felt like she was using "aniki" as a more regular noun rather than a title or honorific, so it didn't register in my brain as a title or honorific. But I guess it's kind of intentional that it felt a bit different since she's intentionally using it flippantly.

You're right in thinking it's more of a noun. Honorifics change the tone of a sentence. For this example, onii-sama is respectful, onii-san is polite, onii-chan is affectionate, aniki is casual.

I'm not knowledgeable enough to go into deeper details but I think that's the gist of it. In private she is affectionate, with her friends she's casual. It's not surprising at all, everyone is like that at her age.

I think you didn't see it much because you can easily translate "aniki" with "bro", in that regard. For the other ones, you kinda need to put a lot of thought into it and in english there isn't that much of a difference between ways to call someone unfortunately.

this is always a problem in translation scene. tho in the end its always come done to who the work are done for.
in "professional" official translation where the target audience included people that not familiar with japanese culture and language, it would be translated as much as possible sometimes even changing the whole paragraph to make sure the reader understand.
but in fan translation, its almost always for fan, so subtlety like this that not exists in english are better left alone because the reader already understand what it mean and can also read between the line of what it mean (other has said of what it implied between the different of "title"). tho in some place this is also what people call different between professional and amateur.

I am more into the left it alone tho. cultural difference are there to be studied not changed. what's the point of setting if in the end everything need to be "in my language" they might as well write their own story then (like power ranger and a lot of sentai does).

Rinna will have their manga debut in chapter 10 and, while novel left the matter of her feelings a bit vague, imo she does have feelings for Haruto. Miu is the newest addition to "Love Pentagon". She is an artist + streamer that also plays ABEX. She often goes to Haruto'd workplace and enjoys coffee while drawing... him... Later she finds out he is the Oni-chan. I intentionally left things vague, so you don't get spoiled too much.

It can be difficult to wrap your head around the concept if you are English natives. English pronoun doesn’t differentiate much. The concept is easier to understand if your language also has multiple pronoun that signaling a lot of things between the line, like intimacy, respect, and/or hierarchy between the speaker and listener, among other things.

If I have to try to illustrate: complain, whine, and nag mean roughly the same thing, but there are different connotations to it. It’s something like that. But when your language only have one word for this concept, sometimes TL have to keep the word to signify what the word actually encompasses.

For me the ideal even in the “professional” case is “leave alone, but explain”. Translator’s notes are how I learned most of this. Just don’t, you know, go all the way to keikaku… =)

In addition, it uses evaporated milk and sweetened condensed milk. It also has a liquid caramel sauce as well.
