Shockingly, the series does not have Harem tag on the Novel Updates, so... Hope is not lost for you?
Well, the thing is there are two definitions of harem:
1) A literal harem where a chatacter have a relationship with multiple girls (really rare, I dislike it)
2) Multiple girls like the same guy (the most used, I dislike it too)

So maybe the novel updates use definition 1?

Most likely.

Tho, the 2nd definition is more like "Love Triangle" than Harem

how is his relation with the girls? Does the author keep edging us out over a long, long time, or does he make progress with our main heroine?
Well, Iirc, in the epilogue of volume 4, each of the girls has their own. Yuno is happy his brother is slowly proritizing his fun over work. Suzuha (who is probably finally "on the same fighting level" as other girl by trying to make Haruto aware of her as a girl) was doing excersices, so she can be in best shape for their "pool outing". Rina is trying to stop herself from "going overboard" on the festival she, Aya, Haruto and Miu will go. (She does not say she likes him, but she is comfortable around Haruto and trusts him.) Aya is flailing around in her room, imagining the festival date with Haruto (and others), while also remembering her indirect kiss with Haruto. Miu's section shows she is interested in Haruto. She doesn't say she directly she likes him, but in my opinion, the way she speaks says she does.

It might not be an edge fest lel

Holy hell, I signed up to read a manga about a toxic streamer hilariously fucking up and revealing he's a good guy and a doting elder brother; not a goddamn love pentagon.

is this because of being lost in translation or are these conversation in japanese just as clunky and unrealistic? like manga always are different from real life but this one is really bad

Not if there are more than 3 people, the second one is generally what people call harem in the community, if you see the harem tag this is generally you should expect
Then the reason it doesn't have the harem tag, is probably cuz Only 2 of the 4 girls are actively trying to become Haruto's girlfriend rn. One is "interested in him" (tho in the way she speaks, I think it's in romantic sense, but she doesn't know that yet or doesn't want to go further as of now) and other one "tries to talk herself out of the possibility of being in love with him, cuz her 2 friends are interested / in love with him"

For the most part he doesn't think that the girls are romantically interested in him and doesn't think about them in a romantic way. He's pretty dense even for a rom-com MC. But the girls are all actively trying to get closer to him. He's been on an aquarium date with one of them and has other upcoming dates arranged (not that they're calling them dates, of course).

In my opinion the story in the LN is clearly moving in a harem direction. There haven't been any male characters introduced to the story whatsoever aside from the MC (unless you count the classmates in this chapter), and yet new female characters continue to be introduced. Because of course, battle royale video games are widely known for their high female-to-male player ratios. /s

I personally find translating it almost intolerable. It sounds incredibly unnatural in English to refer to you big brother as “big brother” all the time.

I much prefer seeing a lot of “titles” like that and honorifics kept in Japanese, since it’s such a big feature of the language.

And there are many ways to refer to your siblings in Japanese, all with subtle differences, like nii-san, onii-san and the various sama, chan etc. variants, aniki, aniue etc. etc.
Same I am so used to hearing Oni-chan or nii-san or aniki hearing anything other than that is straight up intolerable
