She'll have to use a guitar pick now since she cut her nails after her canon event.Hopefully she gets to play again, it shouldn't matter if she makes a band or goes solo, she should play what speaks to her heart!!!
The manga has been addressing it? Things are awkward at home because Mitsuki is avoiding talking about the band drama, so Aya is avoiding going home, and leading to her spending more time at the club.Author: "Fine I guess i will address the band dramaaaaa---- aaaApril Fools!"
It's done a good job of it too, shifting perspectives, adding context through dialogue and active scene. She's really used the 4 pages well recently to build this tension while not having chapters bogged down with a shift in the typical mood. Everyone is behaving like normal but also not like normal and the ways they act slightly different reveals what they're currently struggling with. It's been great. The manga has been addressing it? I mean, the new girl who is all like "why don't you go watch this at home with your GF" is unintentionally pointing out the fact that Aya is avoiding going home.
I've also been really loving this arc, although I also really enjoyed the post prom arc. I feel like Sumiko is talented enough that I could read this for another 10 years, but every once in a while I go back to some of her other works with longer chapters and I really wish she was still doing those. It's done a good job of it too, shifting perspectives, adding context through dialogue and active scene. You mentioned the focus on Aya, the new friend and of course Mitsuki, already. We've learned so much about the current lay of the land while still leaving mysteries to solve later. Most importantly, there's so much potential for what comes next. It's not following the standard arc structure of most yuri manga and that's been exciting to follow. I actually think this has been some of her best stuff. Haven't been this interested in the series in a long time.
Yeah, as a writer, I find the challenge of developing this story as a 4 pager really interesting but I do wonder what she'd do with more space. I also know that more space does not necessarily mean "better." It's just as likely that the series works so well exactly because she's writing under these constraints which might force her to think and construct scenes in ways she would not otherwise. Think of technological constraints forcing creative design and problem solving. She's doing really well with this format either way. I guess we'll see whenever she does decide to go into longer form. I think she's been the best in this short form, dramatic category though.I've also been really loving this arc, although I also really enjoyed the post prom arc. I totally agree with you about constraints, I was more thinking of it from a thematic standpoint. I think she does toxic or close to toxic women really well, as well as complicated mature women really well, and this story isn't really about that. Like My Female Friend Comes Home to Me Every Now and Again, The Real Momoka, My Brother's Girlfriend, like her longer oneshots just have so much personality to them I would love to read something like that from her, something darker.Yeah, as a writer, I find the challenge of developing this story as a 4 pager really interesting but I do wonder what she'd do with more space. Oh yeah don't remind me about Like My Female Friend Comes Home to Me Every Now and Again. Still waiting for a continuation of that. That's true, she's been good no matter the context. She reminded me of the Monophobia writing circle/friends (comprised of Sal Jiang, Tamifull, Kuwabara Tamotsu, and Yuni). They all have a certain quality about their writing and a willingness to write about unconventional relationships and characters. Feels like she matches that group's vibe and quality. Maybe some day.I totally agree with you about constraints, I was more thinking of it from a thematic standpoint.
