Some notes for this upload:
- And on that horrible note, we reach the end of vol 4. With Naomi's arrest, I suspect the story is starting to wind down and loose ends will be tied up in the next volume or two. These would probably include:
- Exact details of how Miura and Yuki were murdered (heavily implied to be murdered by Naomi, but this is not yet shown)
- The meaning behind Miura's final drawing
- What Kumai was doing between Miura's murder and Naomi's arrest, and/or whether he survived
- What happened to Yuuta after Naomi's arrest
- How Takeshi found out about Naomi's crime(s), and details of his disappearance (suicide?)
- The exact nature of Yuki's relationship with Naomi (still find it very odd how close they were after Miura's murder, even more so that she married Takeshi, Naomi's own son)
- How Takeshi came up with the name Nanashino Ren
- Kurihara/Sasaki's return (pretty please, Uketsu?)
- As a side note, I learned that although Cheepy's species is called a Java sparrow in English, it's technically a type of finch (and is indeed also known as a Java finch). Not sure if it's worth it to go back and "correct" all those pages...

By my count, only two kills were directly shown: her mother and Iwata. A possible third if Kumai doesn't survive his stabbing. The ones where she hasn't (yet) been directly shown to be the murderer but is strongly hinted are: Miura, Yuki, and Toyokawa. So possibly six kills in total.

I know a theme in this story is meaning embedded in art, but I can't help but feel that art is a semi-permeable membrane - great for expressing, but not as much for perceiving...

Well the story does have multiple instances of the characters misinterpreting the meanings behind the drawings, so it kinda recognises the shortcomings of this too. It's one of the things I like about it, the way it shows that sometimes the armchair interpretation can be way off base from the truth

Hell yeah, I was at least right on the midwife angle. And this would probably have been roughly my lock in if forced. Also good that the angle of unrequited love and possible accomplice in the "family friend" seems to turn out just true.
For some reason I though she stabbed her mom, this was a lot more brutal than expected. I do wonder though, in animanga logic she should weigh less than 40 kg, even if the mother was a waif herself, how could she overwhelm her? She seems too soft for investigative work as well.
