For the record, I did provide various canon examples of Golshi breaking her usual character and displaying more depth than normal. It's not headcanon or interpretation, it's observation. And yeah my contention is that Golshi being extremely lowkey multifaceted is part of why this utter chaos manga is so funny to begin with. At least that's true for me.

(This isn't really unusual for the umamusume in general, either. Agnes Tachyon is a great example "what you see isn't all of what you get")

But yeah please, no one fight over this. Everyone is entitled to enjoy this manga on whatever terms they like.

EDIT: I'll admit that it IS interpreting on my part that Golshi keeps people at arm's length, though.

Simply pointing to a canonical scene does not mean proving the canonicity of your interpretation of it. Most people, especially in Japanese culture, have an outer persona and an inner persona, so taking things more seriously at important or difficult moments is not something deep or complex. At least if we're not talking about maximum straight man like Special Week or Oguri Cup. Hell, we even have an entire multi-million dollar franchise about it.

But my main problem isn't your overall interpretation of things—that's your personal business. It's that you're seriously trying to validate this headcanon analysis through a clearly parodic, surreal, non-canon spinoff, which, in my opinion, is truly delving too deep. I think we should stop there, because your self-appointed white knight is becoming downright toxic and seems to be making this too personal.

Something doesn't have to be a canonical interpretation to be a valid one. And I think "going too deep" on things that aren't deep is a hell of a lot of fun. Something something "no fun allowed" sign. In fact the more meaningless a story is the more I want to dredge meaning out of it. (I like analyzing UnMetal like it's Metal Gear Solid for instance)

Well, if you use the phrase "canonical scenes," then you shouldn't be surprised that canonicity becomes part of the discourse. And if you weren't serious to begin with, you should have shown it earlier, rather than using it as a alternate airfield when people started criticizing your interpretations seriously. You can dig deep into undeep things for fun as much as you want, but unless someone can reads your mind, it was completely unclear how serious you were and it looks like several other people also bought this as a serious analysis.

I simply put them on ignore. We disagree, but at least you have some awareness, while YurushiteHyacinth adds nothing to our dialogue and is simply too impulsive for any reasonable discussion.

Have you ever heard the term "it's serious business" or "out of character"? In Gold Ship's case, this is especially true simply because she's a trickster who needs special reasons to be sincere and serious. It's the very essence of these characters.
