Without any info, first seems likely. Butterfly effect is pretty significant. Sometime all it takes is just a little nudge

My thought is that previously he was looping through interactions with people he was already comfortable dealing with.

This time he's looping through an interaction he was originally super nervous about with people who are still forming an impression of him.

Such that even if they aren't affected by the loops they could still feel more comfortable around him each successive loop because he gets significantly more comfortable each loop and that makes him seem like a significantly chiller dude.
