Does that mean the rest of Cocoa will be heading to another city? I wonder if they'll be in the same city as Syaro?

Thanks for the TL! That high on the slide and shame afterwards on the last page is hilarious.

I do wonder though what month is it in story by this chapter. On the previous one it was around Valentines and based on Syaro still wearing a coat in this chapter despite there being no snow anymore, its still not quite Spring yet. Considering its around exam season my guess is roughly late February to maybe March.

Gotta agree though that things are happening more quickly in recent chapters since it gone from Christmas (Ch. 183), to Cocoa going home right after Christmas (Ch. 184), to just a bit after New Years when Cocoa came back to the wood framed town (Ch. 185), then Valentines (Ch.186), and then this chapter.

It is going by and getting closer very quickly now!

I can't remember now if wrapping up Chiya and Syaro's school plans was on my "what's left?" Bingo card, but I kinda feel surprised it was resolved this quickly!

I guess that wraps up most of the remaining drama for Chiya and Syaro, along with Rize and Chino. That doesn't leave us with a whole lot left now, except for Cocoa to start saying her goodbyes as she gets ready to go to the bread-making school, Chiya and Syaro move off to their schools, and Chino, Megu, and Maya step into fully the senpai role for the younger girls.

The most obvious way to extend the story from there would be to introduce a new cast of younger characters, but that hasn't been done yet, so if that doesn't start happening over the next several chapters, maybe this story really is coming to its close.

Good to see Syaro's caffeine over-reaction make its way back into the story at least one final time! And, Yura's teasing of Rize is as interesting as ever.

I don't THINK we'd be very far beyond Late February or maybe March.

It looks like we saw about 17 chapters dedicated to what couldn't have been much more than a week or so in the city, so the last few chapters really have felt a bit fast in comparison.

It's a good question about what Cocoa's plans after graduation are. I also seem to recall she was going to do "bread training", but I don't remember if she was going to do some sort of apprenticeship outside of school, or if she was going to study that in school.

I'll need to re-read the chapter(s) where that came up, because I seem to recall it was pretty much loaded with interesting tidbits about the girls' parents and how they all know each other, but I don't remember any of the details clearly.

EDIT: Come to think of it, now that I've reread the city story arc chapters, especially Vol 6 Chapter 9, it sounds more like the baker thing is only something Cocoa is pursuing because it's one of the last vestiges of where she started the story: living in the shadow of her sister, Mocha, trying (and failing) to be a copy-cat "onee-chan". It kinda sounded to me like Cocoa is still undecided, but Rize and Chino suspect that whatever she ends up choosing to do, she'll more than likely integrate the baking thing into a bigger dream, rather than pursue it as her main dream. The girls were still making references to Cocoa's "word-famous lawyer-novelist-baker-barrista" running gag at that point, something that might be a sign of Cocoa's indecision and lack of inspiration on what to do with her future, and though it's been a few chapters since it was referenced again, I think Cocoa might still be undecided that way, and looking back at the story, it makes sense that Cocoa's story arc will lead her to becoming her own person, with a very different future from Mocha.

Anyway, I think that Volume 8 Chapter 6 pretty much establishes the dreams of all the other original characters:
V08Ch06 - According to Syaro and Megu:
  • Rize: Teacher
  • Chiya: Ama Usa
  • Chino: Rabbit House
  • Cocoa: Baker? Lawyer? Novelist?
  • Maya: "Adventurer and all that"
  • Syaro and Megu: "The Dreamless Duo" (though this chapter does set the stage for Syaro's idea to do something that will "make others shine", and hints that Megu will likely be a dancer in spite of her stage fright.)

As an aside, the newer characters are mostly an enigma at this point, regarding their future - the Jinja twins seem to be living in the shadow of their parents' Bright Bunny fortunes and looking for their own path, Fuyu seems to be "coming out of her shell" but I don't recall that she's ever mentioned her own future, and Yura seems to be the biggest mystery of all, going to college alongside Rize and presumably with some clear idea of what she's doing (she mentions in a throw-away line that she has a different major from Rize), but with no hint whatsoever of what she's studying or intending to do after she graduates college. I won't be surprised if it's left at that, as expected for for side characters, but I guess there's still room for the subject to come up.

Sharo’s dream has already been made very clear in the story: she wants to use the knowledge and experience she gains in the big city to help Chiya run Ama Usa An. This is explicitly mentioned in Chapter 131, and it’s also clear that this decision was not made on a whim, but is instead the result of long-term buildup woven throughout the entire series.

When writing Chiya and Sharo, the author also tends to avoid the more direct style used for other characters. Instead, their relationship is often portrayed through subtle, indirect, and sometimes even emotionally restrained or metaphorical expressions, which makes many of these details easy to overlook. The author frequently hints at the nature of their relationship through details such as Sharo’s clothing, and even through the way she changes her use of honorific language depending on who she is speaking to — especially the fact that she does not use honorific speech with Chiya. Nuances like these are often overlooked once the work is translated into other languages, due to both linguistic and cultural differences.

This chapter feels like the peak of the character writing and relationship development. KOI finally paid off foreshadowing that had been built up for a long time. Sharo finally opened up her heart, while Chiya overcame the pain of separation, and both of them experienced meaningful growth. I really hope the manga will have a satisfying ending.

Gotta love that you did reread the previous chapters to do the summary. I also ended up rereading a couple of chapters from past volumes myself LOL. If I had to add some things:

Cocoa:
Around Ch. 131 Cocoa was mentioning her plan to Rize, but Rize passed out from staying in the bath for too long before Cocoa could do so and the chapter ended with Cocoa mentioning to Chino she'll be leaving the town. That was continued on Ch 132 where it's mentioned that she plans to head to the City to continue her baker training (along with the running gag of the International Barista Lawyer).

I think it Cocoa more or less plans to learn from one of Aoyama's former nannies, the Assistant Manager of Hotel Royal Cats in the City as shown in Vol. 8 Ch. 9 and the joke at Vol. 9 Ch. 5 / Ch. 111 (Can't recall which other chapters this was brushed upon, but Ch. 132 did make references to their stay at the City in particular those 2 chapters I mentioned via a flashback panel).

Yura:
As for Yura, pretty sure she is also going down the Teacher route like Rize, but its not directly stayed by her and more of by other characters (mostly by Rize). It's mentioned by Rize on Ch. 126 and I think a few more chapters here and there. Its even mentioned by Maya on this chapter at p.2.

Maya & Megu:
Maya and Megu's plans are also still a bit vague. But as you mentioned Maya has an Adventurer dream simce she likes the thrill of new places. And Megu's is likely go down the dancer/ballet route with Syaro remarking about it on Vol. 8 Ch. 6 and it could be considered to be implied by the number instances where she ends up dancing in the story like Vol. 7 Ch. 5, Vol. 12 Ch. 149, Ch. 179, Ch. 183, (plus a few more instances pre Vol 8). Also Megu did also follow her mother's footsteps with her school of choice.

Lastly, also got no idea about Fuyu and the Jinja twins since they haven't had any notable build up for plans for the future unlike the main 5 the story started with.
