Man, she's had so many close calls, the chapter title really led me astray.

I think the "face in the sky" panel shuts down any potential mecha-konoe

Wait a sec. It's weird that the mother didn't suffer any complications to her legs after that. Sure, she could have cancer but with the potential amount of radiation she was exposed to could have would still put her in a terrible health condition.

Sadly, Konoe died but knowing the US tin foil hat trope, it could be her death is a cover up which is weird to do as she's more of a public figure at this point and it's going to cost them a lot if she is found still kicking somewhere.

Sometimes it takes a while for radiation damage to occur. Some of the workers at Chernobyl lasted days before starting to break down. It also depends on the concentration of radiation in the water. It may take years to manifest cancer. If there is a timeskip, she might die during it.
So true. Right now though, I'm feeling like when a certain someone "did not return" in LoGH. The series just failed to keep my interest after that.
Yeah, LoGH was a retelling of Three Kingdoms, and I ran into the same issue watching the 2010 series. At its heart is the story of Cao Cao, Liu Bei, and Sun Jian. You see the buildup and heroics of each. But time goes on, and war is constant. They all begin to die off, and 80% of the way in, none of the original characters are left alive. The series ends with each of the Three Kingdoms limping along, their children unable to match the valor of their fathers, as the last few loyal retainers struggle to hold everything together, while the Sima clan seizes the moment to become ultimate rulers.

She's still standing at that state funeral that was held after six months. If it was cancer, she would be struggling a bit now due to the exposure.

It's a bit annoying that we haven't seen anything about the long term exposure to modern nuclear weapons to really see what would happen to the human body. Latest thing we got are either from incidents from nuclear energy or that research on the usage of depleted uranium in weapons.

Going off the studies conducted post-Hiroshima, the cancerous after-effects took between 6-10 years to manifest. Considering the dilution in seawater and the short time frame of immersion she may be relatively healthy with proper care.

I'm betting someone faked her death or something to recruit her to join some secret organization

Right, I'm calling two predictions going forward.

First Theory: Konoe genuinely did die from the head trauma of a botched jump. (far more common than people want to admit, also Nightwing died by tripping and hitting his head on a rock in Injustice, so I'd believe it) And the Other Lieutenant, who could sense the Kaiju and was the true first protag of the story steps up as the main Protag with the help of his sister.

Second Theory: They were in fact able to save Konoe but the "Shadow Government (TM)" staged her death to bring her into the fold as a dedicated operative, having been a part of the fighting and decision making in almost every Kaiju incident to this point, she's been deemed too valuable an asset to leave in the hands of another country's government.

So yeah. Gonna be interesting either way going forward.

It's a bit of a hard comparison of effects of the Hydrogen and Plutonium bombs to modern day nuclear explosives.

All who are rocking nukes nowadays uses highly enriched uranium in theirs and I don't think anybody conducted any long term research on it's possible effects to the survivors as they assume that anybody were exposed won't be able to get any help due to anything close by is destroyed. I remember hearing that the people who actually survived when the bomb dropped in Hiroshima suffered more from their fatal injuries due to facilities that can actually help them are in the next town and the roads going there were either blocked or destroyed by the bomb.

Chernobyl is possibly the closest thing we can compare today. There's also Fukushima but Chernobyl crossed several lines before it's devastation compared to Fukushima who was able to mitigate the damage before it got worse.

Radiation isn't as dangerous as you think.

Third Theory: Author wanted her out of the way to have the incest brother be the main character once again.

I think you hit the nail on the head. Modern nuclear weapons are optimized for destruction, with little residue. However, I'm willing to bet that when people hear nuclear bombs, they picture the Fallout series, with much more primitive, "dirtier" bombs and rampant mutation within.

NO WAY KONOE DIED JUST LIKE THAT after 22 volume she just died like that, by hitting her head? at least make her die in a blaze of glory not after failed parachute jump :angery::meguuusad:. If the next volume doesnt blow me away or keep it interesting i might just drop this or no more monthly release i will just wait for volume release.
