as far as I remember, mangasushi doesn't involve themselves with mangadex but allow users to upload it in their names to mangadex.
Basically, they don't want to have any fallout if mangadex is impacted by cease and desist, or any fallout on mangadex if they are impacted by it.
So if other users don't upload it while they have it on their site, tis not really their fault0

Mangasushi posted 12-16 today. The last upload prior to that was in March, and Utoon picked this up a week or two ago. More than a bit suspicious timing to do a mass release. Not that I care about Utoon anyways, Mangasushi is far more preferable to the trash that is Utoon.

I'm confused about how the MC's military rank seems to be developing (just like the MC himself, I guess 😅)

So when he got out of the academy, he was enlisted into the army as an ensign.
He then got seconded to the coast guard in the capacity as a second lieutenant (so...he didn't get a promotion?)

Stuff happened, which led to him getting a medal and a promotion to (first) lieutenant and gets to serve as acting captain.

But then his secondment with the coast guard ended.....and he reverted back (?) as an ensign second lieutenant. And on arrival he gets promoted to (first) lieutenant (the MC also mentions this weird double promotion).

Does anything like that happen in the real world? E.g. could someone from the army be seconded into the navy as a higher rank, which somehow doesn't affect their rank in the army? And if so, how would merits (and possibly promotions) obtained from their secondment into navy then translate to their standing in the army?

For real world examples of weird transfers look at the Flying Tigers. You would also have some pilots and navigators 'fall asleep' in planes that were being transferred to England prior to the US entering the war. Since those pilots were 'stuck' in England they flew under English colors until the US officially joined the war.

Well, the answer is kinda complicated; we're also "translating" east asian ranks into american(?) ones, but inconsistently, and picking willy-nilly from branches of service in the process? No service branch of any military I'm aware of contains both the ranks "second lieutenant" and "ensign," and coast guards broadly follow naval rank structure. Extra weird because if we're modeling this on Japan, I believe their coast guard is a civilian affair, and not military. Obviously, they have ranks and cooperate often with JMSDF, but they exist as Sea Cops, not military. Secondment, or being an exchange officer, has you acting in a capacity equivalent to your rank for some specific purpose, but you can't be "promoted" by your host military because you aren't actually a member.

But yeah, they're basically reaching blindly into a box full of ranks each time they mention one, it seems. Dude talks about coming back to the Space Navy as a warrant officer after being promoted from ensign, which: nope. Merika, who I assume is enlisted or junior NCO is addressed as rear admiral during her "award ceremony." Might as well promote her to Space Pope while they're at it.

Looking into the ranks a bit more; the translation made things kinda confusing. This is what I gathered from checking the RAWs:

In chapter 2, page 12, Nao is addressed as a 宇宙軍准尉 (uchuu gun jun'i) and gets promoted to 少尉 (shoui). So he starts out as a warrant officer (not ensign) of the space army and gets promoted to second lieutenant.



In chapter 8, page 28/29, Merika was addressed as メーリカ准尉殿 (Merika jun'i-dono). So as a warrant officer, not a rear admiral. And since she was addressed that way on both pages, that's assuming she was a warrant officer before she got her promotion by one rank.

Our bro Mark was similarly mentioned to be a rear admiral in chapter 10, page 1, but was also referred to as a 准尉 (jun'i), so he's also a warrant officer.

I think this resolves all the weird inconsistencies. Basically after the officer academy the students all get the rank warrant officer. Nao was probably immediately promoted to second lieutenant at the space army (and not just seconded to the coast guard in that capacity), which is why he retained that rank after returning (?). And now he's promoted to 中尉 (chuui), or (first) lieutenant.

He's definitely going to plan for it again. But his problem is he wants to go out alone while saving his subordinates, and his subordinates are just too good that they turn his suicide plans into winning strategies. At least, I'm pretty sure that will be the consistent gag moving forward.
