Why does it seem like the debt he took on was never meant to be repaid? I smell a rat lurking behind this.

Anyways, the Homecenter is like an infinite means-of-production machine. Pop in, grab some lawnmowers, pop out. Sell for profit, low low overhead.

I know this is a fantasy story but the accountant in me really fucking cringed when I read "no taxes" like come on sir taxes pay for the everything! You can keep them low if you want but you need the money to do upkeep on the land!!!!

With the endless restocking of the home center she could sell propane and propane accessories. It's a clean-burning, energy-efficient fuel that when used for cooking lets you taste the meat, not the heat. :win:

Thanks for the chapter!

I might be wrong, but I assumed that meant inadequate taxes and lax enforcement, not no taxes at all.

I'm picturing the renovation to be a Minecraft style "Mob Farm", where monsters are spawned directly above deathtraps and their materials are then sent to chests.
Not that I don't foresee this eventually, but I cringe at the reaction that such an unprotected setup would bring. It would go from the competition waiting for the family to default on their loans, to actively trying to kill them before they can build a proper cadre of competent guards, soldiers, and knights to act as security for the feif.

And let's not forget the legion of lawyers, accountants, and merchants to built a proper tax system, pay any fines and back taxes to the Crown, and a establish a robust bureaucracy to manage it all.

While I don't have access to the raws, or understand them even if I did, the translated text in the chapter didn't convey that at all. The context of that conversation made it sound as if the lord didn't collect taxes because doing to would cause more people to leave.

might be, let's hope because no taxes at all is kind of ridiculous XD

Correct, she means he doesn't collect that much tax, but not nothing.
