I feel that, when the time comes for Aesir to become a spirit himself, the entire world over is going to make a pilgrimage. He's only about a 5th of his way through his lifespan and he's already making so many connections in different places. I feel like it'll end up like in Doctor Who, when they send out the message "The Doctor is dying. Please, please help." and everyone came, except in this case it's more to see him off, being a benefactor/elder of their ancestors in some way or form.
I mean, he's teaching his sword style to the village kids. That's another branch that he's just gone and started on his own (not that he doesn't have the right, being an Elder/Mediator of the entire discipline).

Small side quest -> turns into an entire year

Aesir is it any wonder your friends keep dying of old age???

Aesir has already Grokked that the people he will meets and befriend will die of old age before he ever gets to see them again.

It's very subtly done, but compared to the beginning of his journey he has ....grown.. Gotten "used" to the differences in lifespan and flow of time.
Like in this village, he helps people develop their skills and increases their chances of survival, so that he may one day see their (great)grandkids prosper if he happens to swing by.

There's still the melancholy on occasion, but it doesn't rule his life anymore. He's looking forward, not backwards in the past anymore.

The closest I recall it being addressed would be when he was explaining a bit about the spirits to the count and mentioned that the spirit he was talking to at that time was rather young. Makes me feel like he just talks to the spirits in the area, but seeing how subjective time is to them young could be several decades. Plus his usual spirit companion could have been elsewhere at that moment.

It's addressed in one of the last light novel volumes.
During a big fight, all the spirits that he's previously met as he traveled come and help him including the elders from his village that have passed away. Stronger high elves like the elders seem to be able to keep their memories and consciousness even after they become spirits. This is further reinforced by what happens in the epilogue of the LN series.

He's treating it like they're mutually exclusive choices when they aren't.

Aesir doesn't need to settle down for a year or two at every pit stop on the way to where he's going. It's like he's Freiren missing Fern. She'd never get her ass in gear without a minder too. He doesn't know any of these villagers but he does know a lot of other people who would get a lot more out of him being there than these random villagers.

These trips of his could be completed in a year or two tops. I certainly understand stopping for protracted periods on a selective basis, like with the eastern tribes, or learning a new skill like sculpting.
