Mom definitely giving me the vibe of living vicariously through her daughter.
Now I don't think she's a bad person or a bad mom per se but I definitely feel like she's gotten too caught up in the Akari persona (granted being manage for a budding child star cannot be an easy task I'll give her that) and making sure it succeeds that she's forgetting to let her simply breathe.
What she does during the next couple of chapter will be pivotal in defining her role in the story. She's discovered that Oura and Waku's friendship and she seems savvy enough to recognize he's both a source of motivation for her and an outlet for her to simply be herself and let loose. Now there's a couple of ways she could go about it but I'm hoping she'll just be quiet about figuring out their secret and letting Oura have her relationship with Waku develop uninhibited.

The batteries on their phones must have been charged with the power of their love because I don't think they can video call that long under normal circumstances. Their phones fought for their lives so they can greet each other in the morning.
I thought the mom would be strict about relationships but she seems more receptive than expected.

Mom catches her falling asleep video chatting with a boy, doesn't immediately lose her shit and seems almost supportive. I'm willing to give mom a chance.

yeah - Mom discovering Waka's existence will likely go one of two ways, that I can see.
- Either she'll understand that he's a source of strength, encouragement, and motivation for her daughter--and she'll remain "hands off" and stay out of Minori & Waka's business--provided it stays relatively benign (as she sees it);
- Or, she'll decide that this constitutes risk of a "scandal", and force the two apart.
Of course, I actually don't know how Minori would respond in that second case. There's a chance she just tries to stoically carry on, despite the crushing blow that would be. Waka would try to respect it, especially if Minori herself breaks the news that she has to focus on her work and can't make time for him. He'd go along with that, certainly, and try to support her from afar, or something.
But I could also see Minori being headstrong enough to push back against her mom in this case. She's lost friends and connections before, sure, but I suspect Waka is different. This could be a case where Minori discovers her own limits and takes charge. Alternatively, she breaks under the pressure without Waka in her life, spirals, and causes problems right at the height of her budding career.
Which, if her mother is pushing all of this out of some need to live vicariously through Minori, could make her snap, blowing everything up all at once.
Depends on what the author wants to do--but the next few chapters will definitely set the tone for whether this gets super heavy, and what sort of character Mom will turn out to be.

She didn't freak out when seeing her video call a boy, so that's good.

This is a cute manga. It's just two cute kids making it work. Every chapter so far has been cute. Every conflict so far has had cute causes and has been solved by cute means. I really don't think the author's going to make such a drastic change in the theme and have her mother be an obstacle. I'd sooner expect her to give them her blessing to marry.

I don't fully believe her mom is going to try to get in the way between those two, looking back from the beginning to the end, the start feels more akin to mom seeing that Oura has friends, but she still pushing her to give 100% to her job, but the end is more realizing that Waka is more than just a friend. Coming from my own experience, a lot of asian moms (not all obv) have this mindset of do all the hard work you can now and then you can have fun later that they push onto their children. Mom prolly figuring out that Waka is more special, so we'll see how she reacts to that.

There were hints that the mom wasn't necessarily going to be an unapologetic control freak type character, even just considering that Minori seems to genuinely enjoy and derive satisfaction from her work. But mom is also clearly personally invested in her daughter's career, and willing to manipulate Minori to keep her performing. I doubt there's any way things will go smoothly as Minori tries to gain some independence and better work life balance. However it goes, I'm just glad there seems to be nuance to the "antagonist".
I might have forgotten, was there anything worse than the stuff we saw in this chapter? I remember backhanded, patronizing comments about Minori's appearance or how to behave, just shallow showbusiness crap. And obviously the fact that Minori's overworked. Which all sucks, don't get me wrong, but is in keeping with the mom's role as Minori's manager and stuff I wouldn't consider unforgivably villainous.
For a minute I kind of remembered her slapping Minori but I was thinking of goddamn A Face You Shouldn't Show lol. Way to go, brain.

-She told Minori that she didn't need to practice smiling, because a stoic character is better for Akari.
-She booked a photo shoot for Akari even though she knew Minori had karaoke planned.
-She said she couldn't go to Okinawa.
She did go back on the smiling thing once Minori made it work.. And, as we saw in the first few pages of this chapter, she is putting a lot of work to support her daughter's career.
