What world are we living in when even pickles are enshittified?
I felt some personal attack at the thought of watering down pickles with water.
Out of curiosity, (not tryna make you a pickle convert, just curious.)I dunno. Pickles are something I don’t eat at all. Automatic gag reflex to anything pickle flavored so I couldn’t tell you if anything was better or worse.

What do YOU mean by pickles? ANYTHING pickled or like...dill pickles (Which becomes people's go-to, kind of like how people call any SUV a Jeep) ? Or we talking Achaar and such too?
I have noticed when its a Tomii centric chap, it tends to focus on taste/lack of nutrition and less outright dishes. (Milk, pickles, beansprouts etc)
Its kind of consistent in its way, because we have discussed flanderization, and one thing I noticed about Tomii in the early chapters is when the cast eats subpar food, Kurita and others will go " ...Hmmm :/ " and Tomii is almot always going " Oh yum wow this is so good ". He rarely complains about the food until someone else does, which also makes sense, he is very much a follower/kiss-ass, so he wont rock the boat/doesnt have a palate thats good at judging.
So the Tomii chapters being about how he has a tendency to not notice/care about taste/quality until its a issue.....as much as I find Tomii insufferable (albeit in his case as opposed to most of the folks, its the point that hes annoying), with so much if the cast flanderized, I kinda appreciate hes mostly consistent.
I hadnt considered thats why he's like that. Makes total sense.Tomii not having discerning taste kind of makes sense given his background. Dude is just happy to get a meal because he grew up in genuinely dire circumstances that someone like Yamaoka, who grew up with a wealthy father or Kurita, who grew up in the prosperous post-war Japan, would not be able to understand. That part of his character is actually quite well done.
His flanderization was pretty bad, though. Like, at the start, he was just kind of a douchebag middle manager type. He’s gone from that to basically being a child in an adult’s body.
Interesting. I'm Swedish, so I have lived my life around pickles (and pickled fish at that) of some sort since the start, so I have a fondness for it. Stuff like pickled herring is more..sweet than tart and vinegary though, so I can say I prefer a sweet pickling to sour or strong. We make our own pickled (red) onions in my home, infact.Like any type of pickle or pickle flavored item. Here we have pickle flavored potato chips. I can’t eat them. Just auto-gag. I’ve never had achaar (I’ve never seen it where I live), but like relish, I can’t eat. I don’t like pickled eggs. I imagine if the flavor approximates jarred pickles in any way, like the very vinegary taste, I wouldn’t be able to tolerate it.
I live in Pittsburgh, and every July we have an event called “Picklesburgh” in the city. Vendors make up pickles and pickle flavored items. I have never gone to it because there is literally nothing there I could eat. I just automatically gag and have to spit it out.
It’s a bit like that chapter where Yamaoka made the picky eater eat food his wife made. Like, I’m not that limited as that guy was, but I sympathized with him the whole time because I don’t like people trying to force me to eat shit I don’t like, like, I also don’t like onions. People get very pissy when I tell them I don’t like onions on my food.
Can... mold grow in just a few hours? Like if the plum was moldy in the jar, then it's Tomii's fault for not noticing. But if it got moldy only after it's been put in the bento box, how did that happen? I've never seen that kind of thing happen ever.
Meat going bad and stinky in just half a day, I get. I have once left some raw chicken sitting out on the counter in a hot day, and by night it stinks like rot, but literal mold?
Yeah, that mold looks like it's been sitting for at least a whole day. It just made no sense to me, and like, while I can tolerate some inaccuracy, bro's just making shit up at this point.Mold can start growing in as little as six hours, though it's quite rare to happen and it usually takes a day or so to actually be visible.
