I bet it is a translator issue. I'm not familiar with japanese, but I do know that there are languages where certain pronouns do not specify sex, so I think that was the case in her speech and the dragon merely assumed that it would be a man.

If unspecified, when ruby mentioned the "if I can't engaged to him" it should have been "to them". Singular they as neutral pronoun exists, and it's not a new invention (like some believe) but actually attested in old literature, from the Shakespeare era

if the context is already obvious, Japanese/Korean/many other asian languages often omit the pronoun (which can also be genderless) probably making it very hard for English translators. I also personally prefer 'them' but the translator may have wanted to emphasise Big Lady's misunderstanding.
Source: I was anime, and the grammatical structure of my native language is similar to Japanese/Korean.

I did kinda expect that the person she wanted to marry was Big Lady due to the kiss, and I like that we don't have to deal with no random getting between the two. Good shyt, thank you keep it coming.

Why does she fail her promise? She only promises to protect the descendants, not making more of them. So after this, she will successfully complete her promise
