Yes, and maybe I am overthinking it, but it feels like the mother is forcing her to become a new male in her life that she can latch onto, would love her unconditionally and would make her happy again, after being rejected by several males in her life (her lover, the ex-husband, the person who rejected her after finding out she had given birth).

I thought the same things. I think it’s more meant to be her mother thinking her child is an abhorrent thing that doesn’t deserve to grow up happily as a girl or be treated with human dignity, but frankly that’s not any less transfem coded lmao

Yep. I'm expecting them to work It out together / leave it all behind and try to heal together

...that's what it's expected, at least. Considering how this story takes a dark turn every now and then, it very well could end in a different way (like, both avenging themselves against their mothers)
