Hello everyone! I hope you're all doing well.

It's been quite a while since our last update—around 7-8 months, to be exact. That's definitely a long time, but I'm going to explain everything. So this is going to be a pretty long comment. Anyone who reads the whole thing should be completely caught up on what's been going on.

Why haven't we been updating on Dex while still releasing things elsewhere?

The main reason is that uploading to Dex has become somewhat complicated for us. And don't misunderstand me—I don't mean simply clicking the upload button. I'm talking about that period when we received a lot of hate because our releases had mistakes, while very few people actually took the time to help us fix those mistakes and improve.

Because of that, whenever we upload something to MangaDex, it usually takes us longer than when we release something on Patreon or elsewhere. Our first experience on MangaDex left quite an impression on us. In some ways, it also pushed us to improve a lot, but it's still something we haven't forgotten.

Because of that experience, before uploading a chapter we now try to review, correct, and improve it as much as possible so we don't end up receiving the same kind of comments again.

The problem is that this takes time. We don't have enough staff, and we also haven't been able to find paid staff who can help us consistently, especially when it comes to proofreading and corrections.

That's one of the reasons why such a large gap developed between releases, but the biggest issue by far was the loss of my files.

When I lost all of my files for Chapters 94 through 118, I basically had to edit everything again from scratch. That meant doing the typesetting and cleaning all over again while also working and studying in real life, so I had to rebuild everything little by little.

Even the translations for chapters that we already had available—for example, on Patreon—had to be transcribed again so they could be reviewed before I could start working on them properly.

Because of that, you'll probably notice improvements throughout these chapters, both in the ones that had already been uploaded and in the new releases.

Some of those improvements include:

  • We reduced the use of hyphens (-) to split or fit words, since some people thought it looked terrible.
  • We improved some of the redraws, even if only in small areas.
  • We replaced chapters that were using the magazine version with the volume version whenever possible.
  • We corrected spelling and grammatical mistakes that had been left pending.
Do we have a coin system?

Short answer: No.

We've honestly never considered using that kind of system. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with groups that do, but in our case, we didn't even have a website until recently.

I did see another scanlation group that had a website where they uploaded their version of Youjo Senki, and you had to pay around $10 to recharge coins, which would apparently only get you about two chapters.

If anyone ever thought that group was us, you could've at least dropped by our Discord and asked us, haha.

If you look at what we actually posted on Patreon, aside from early versions of Youjo that hadn't been 100% reviewed yet and the occasional light novel, we didn't really lock the rest of our projects behind Patreon.

Sotsu, Ogamida, Orcsen, Jae, Shadows, VTuber—all of those series have been released for free on Dex because they're projects we work on and continue releasing with the help of several people.

What the hell is "Enhanced Quality"?

For some reason, a few people thought we were intentionally lowering the quality of the raws so we could then "sell" you a better version on Patreon, lol.

I think that's mostly because we never properly explained what Enhanced Quality actually meant.

When we use that term, we're simply referring to processing the images through Waifu2x with settings intended to preserve the original linework while reducing image noise without ruining the artwork or heavily altering the original image.

It's nothing revolutionary, and honestly, the difference is much more noticeable on certain pages than others.

We gave it that name because some chapters from the magazine version had pretty terrible-looking raws, and after processing them, they became much more pleasant to read.

If you don't believe me, you can compare something like the free raw of Ogamida with the version we've uploaded. There's a pretty noticeable difference.

Will there ever be such a huge gap between Patreon and MangaDex again?

Short answer: No.

Or at least, we really hope there won't ever be another 12-chapter gap.

From now on, we'll try to work together with our proofreaders whenever they're available. Once they've reviewed a chapter and give us the okay that everything is properly finished, we'll upload it.

So the gap between platforms shouldn't ever reach that level again.

I've noticed that your credit pages now mention a website called HikariMangas.com. What's that?

That's our website.

We paid for the hosting back in January… and well, it's already August, which means that in a few months we'll have to pay for it again. I don't even remember the exact renewal date anymore, lol.

Hopefully that gives you an idea of just how busy we've been. The website was supposed to be properly used starting in January, and we already had several test versions ready, yet it's only now becoming fully active.

But then…

What does HikariMangas have? A coin system?

Nope. Nothing like that.

You'll be able to read everything we release for free.

Yes, you read that correctly: completely free.

The main difference is that our website will generally be around 1-3 chapters ahead of MangaDex.

For example, you can already find Chapters 119 and 120 of Youjo Senki there.

Using our website is also another way you can support us and help us continue releasing new chapters.

On Hikari, you'll also find chapters with:

  • Enhanced Quality versions.
  • Volume versions whenever they're available.
  • Fully edited bonus pages from the volume releases.

We're also currently developing a major update for the website that should arrive within the next few months, so please look forward to it.

If everything that used to be 1-2 chapters ahead on Patreon will now be available on Hikari, what happens to the people supporting you?

Everyone who supports us through subscriptions or donations will still receive special content.

We're preparing exclusive things for you, including:

  • Doujinshi.
  • Wallpapers.
  • PDF versions of the volume releases.
  • And other things that we'll gradually prepare in the future.

We're also planning to add a dedicated section to the website in a future update where we can properly thank everyone who supports us.

Because honestly, without those people, we wouldn't be able to afford many of the manga volumes that will later be made available for free on both Dex and Hikari, including the bonus pages from the volume releases.

Could you please update the Discord? It's completely dead.

Yes, lol.

Now that we're finally getting through all of this, we're planning a fairly big Discord update.

It'll probably happen sometime next month, although I don't want to promise anything because, if there's one thing we definitely don't have enough of, it's free time.

Is that the end of the announcement?

Yep. That's it.

Sorry for the massive wall of text, but I wanted to explain everything properly.

If there's anything I didn't clarify here, feel free to join us on Discord and ask in the chat.

We also want to apologize for the long delay, but as you've probably gathered by now, a lot of things have been happening. There were also other situations that I can't really talk about because they're personal matters.

I genuinely hope you enjoy these chapters, and I also hope you'll check out HikariMangas, where you can reread them at a higher image quality than we're able to upload here because of MangaDex's image-size limitations, as well as see the additional pages included in the volume versions.

We'll also begin working on the Youjo Senki extra chapters. Once they're finished, we'll upload them both here and on Hikari, although they'll be available on Hikari a few days earlier.

And if you want to know exactly when we release something new, remember to join our Discord.

P.S.: We also have a commission system where you can commission us to work on specific series. If you'd like more information, you can ask us on Discord or check out our massive and terrifying paywall known as Patreon xD.

Anyway, that's all for now. See you again when I upload Chapter 119 here on Dex.

Being X gave Mary Sue unlimited plot armor and she still got whooped by our little Demon. Shame that Tanya didn't confirm the kill but even if she did, Being X would've either revived Mary Sue or made a new one to challenge Tanya
wasn't there some kind of intergod kerfuffle? Being X said they accidentally made her too strong and told Tanya to gtfo the war cuz they cant do shit about her a few chapters back

I appreciate y’all, great job with these chapters. Don’t take the hate to heart, you’re doing this all for free and putting out quality TLs.

Being X gave Mary Sue unlimited plot armor and she still got whooped by our little Demon. Shame that Tanya didn't confirm the kill but even if she did, Being X would've either revived Mary Sue or made a new one to challenge Tanya
As always, Being X is a sore loser. He can't let Tanya win, because of his not-very-divine ego.

Nah, Mary Sue, true to her name, survives the attack with minor injuries (if she took any damage at all). Her powers arent from Being X, but every single god that exists OTHER than Being X. Including the Author.

To survive and eventually defeat Tanya is her sole purpose, as it is already written.
