As a fan of Ajisai, I already accepted defeat before this chapter until Renako decided to swerve us here. You sly devil you. But the biggest swerve is... this is only part 1! IF this was the real ending, I would've been completely satisfied with this. Hopefully, just hopefully, the author can pull off an even better ending than this and not pull a CSM part 2.

the light novels are 8 volumes in and this is the end of volume 4. (also, in the light novels, season 1 is considered to be volumes 1-5 with volumes 6-8 being season 2 which is still ongoing.)

How can i learn this skill? I want to have 2 cute girlfriends too :meguuusad:
So be poly and be someone worth dating. 🤷 It's not that complicated, although obviously it takes effort.

I'm so happy for this story not to bend to the social pressure to turn every harem situation into monogamy, or just end with an unsatisfying status quo. A true rarity in media; rarer than it is in real life, even.

More seriously, I've always had mixed feelings about the idea of poly endings as a solution. Like you said, if it's not handled well the choice of a single partner can be disappointing. But if it is done properly, that choice becomes meaningful. Seriously reflecting on one's feelings can be character growth. At the same time, in this case Renako did her soul-searching and arrived at the conclusion that choosing both was the best solution, and that too is meaningful. But when that doesn't apply, poly is an excuse for making no choice at all, no commitment. It's about the protagonist taking responsibility for their own feelings, if that makes sense. This isn't necessarily a critique or rebuttal of your point, just my thoughts on it.
Make it mean something, that's what I'm getting at.
I basically agree with you. I wasnt trying to say that picking one is worse, I meant that they are equaly good/bad. It all depends on the setup to make the choice actually mean something.

I understand that this was always meant to be harem, but part of me wishes renako and mai were endgame v_v. At this point I’m only staying for moments with just them

IMO, If Renako didn't choose both of them, she will choose Ajisai.

After all, Renako confessed to Ajisai First, and In this chapter Renako make example she date Ajisai to Mai but not to Ajisai.
The story made it perfectly clear that Renako loves them both equally and ultimately wouldn't choose one over the other.

She literally asked Mai if she wanted her to date Ajisai before deciding to go through with her decision.

There are another scenes which make me think Renako will chose Ajisai if she can't choose Harem, such as: Renako said she think Mai will be fine even Renako reject her before she realise Mai isn't perfect.
Mai realise Renako in love with Ajisa when she see Renako Expression at the time Ajisai's Confession. That's why she looked give up and lost her positive thinking ability.(See at Mai and Satsuki after Ajisai Confession).
Moreover Renako accept Ajisai as her First Lover by accept Ajisai First.

The last reason can see this chapter page 23 conversation.
