My hypothesis is that the father is going to point out something reasonable. He acts like a dickhead, but his reasoning for why he doesn’t want Rei to be an idol is not hard to understand. He cares about his daughter’s safety and wellbeing. He’s just being stubborn and hardheaded where finding compromise is hard for him. I genuinely think he cares about her, he’s just running roughshod over her desires in the name of protecting her.

It was supposed to be a test of her ability to deal with a predatory industry and perform despite the difficulty, trying to drag it down after things went well is just being a petty, sore loser. It does not make practical sense either: yes, the idol industry is horrible and it's honestly better not to tie your future to it as a source of income. However, it's not like she's working class, according to the story, her family is loaded. There is zero pressure on her getting some other job skills instead, since even if something were to happen to her parents, she'd be inheriting the family's wealth. Might as well let her try what she fancies. What's even the point of great wealth if not to let your children have the lives they want without worry?

well yeah, obviously there is a difference between a mostly fluffy rom-com/slice of life manga and the real life toxic idol culture.

just because I think the father fills a villain role in this manga for trying to stop his daughter becoming an idol doesn't mean I think the actual atrocities happening due to the idol culture are somehow ok.
