Hey now the snake has/had it just as bad and didn’t deserve the pain it suffered
... we are talking about the man-eating giant snake that villagers were sacrificing maidens to until the exorcists showed up, right?

On a side note, a lot of stories that involve entities hundreds of years old hiding among modern-day humans (the possessing oni from this chapter, or the usual urban vampire milleau) tend to miss the language aspect of it. Like, if you heard someone talk your native language the way that was the norm hundreds of years ago, you'd pick up it sounding strange immediately.

Lol the siblings finally fuflfill their role as the snake god's minions, Was expecting to see a giant after chapter lore paragraph on how they based the messenger design on some in-universe game or obscure cultural reference

How can she be blamed for what she did unknowingly?

It's not 'blame' per se but, according to what I know of Japanese folklore, she basically became ultra-impure by engaging repeatedly with things like cadavers and cannibalism (don't tell me she didn't know what kind of meat she ate). I think that, in this story, her transgressions (罪, tsumi) and ritual impurity (穢れ, kegare) became so great that she was punished accordingly, by taking her humanity away. I don't think it was a moral judgement, but some sort of cosmic reaction to her state of impurity.

And, once again, I'm not a trained folklorist, so please do not take my word at face value and make some researches on this subject if you want to know for sure.

Yes, we already been shown from The snakes personality(keeps Saving/helping people, the whole dorky possession ) and one little page flashback 5-chapters or so ago that something happened to it that set it on the path to be an evil Tyrant.

i mean these are the same villagers that easily turn on Dara, I won’t be surprised if the snake was innocent in the first place And just made a scrapegoat by someone else.

Akou and Unjo... Yeah let's create a new bit of folklore directly connected to Hinata and Kaoru this will not have consequences and will in fact be completely fine.

Which I'm sure it actually will. This is officially enshrining them as messengers to Yamatagi Madara and i'm sure if it comes to that they'll be happy to keep bothering her for centuries to come.
The resulting spirits probably won't be them, but will likely subconsciously inherit parts of their nature...

Anyways it's something fast in the future if it even happens

I'm not sure if the daughter actually realize what the dad did or she just has an inkling that her father was definitely doing something for her

'it has no power for now' lolololol Kaoru will be all in for it when the time comes (or cry that he's not the one getting power)

It's be a bit easier if you know some kanji for numbers. Basically there are nine branch families created from Jurota's blood, each took the word 十 (10) from his name to put into their family names, numbering from 10 to 90.
  • 十御田 Tomita (10) is the landowner of eastern mountain, managing Jurota's monument. Descended from Tomizo (chapter 42), son of a merchant in western village. When the branches were first established, they used their wealth to buy the land and distributed to other families so that Jurota's lineage would last for a long time (pretty much funding their entire extended "clan"). Tomita Kanna is the classmate who has a crush on Kaoru.
  • 二十尋 Hatahiro (20) oversees the Hirahiro shrine where the twisted arms are enshrined. Descended from the first Nagi (a.k.a. Mitsu). Hatahiro Saeko is the current Nagi, and Hatahiro Masatsugu is her guardian/uncle.
  • 三十木谷 Misogiya (30) oversees the forbidden ground (western mountain) where Dara-san roaming. Descended from Kisuke and Hina (chapter 47-50).
  • 四十八願 Yoinara (48) maintains the ward at reverse demon gate. Descended from Tsuru, a disciple of the first Nagi who learned the 48 external techniques of Hatami style. They're close to the Hatahiro since both are families of sorcerers. Yoinara Keita is the exorcist who runs candy shop as side-gig.
  • 五十子 Irako (50)... not sure what they do. Irako Miwa is the neighbor lady who drew for Kaoru.
  • 六十里 Tsuijufi (60)... ditto. Tsuifuji Shiho is the school nurse with a crush on Kaoru's homeroom teacher.
  • 七十刈 Nasokari (70)... ditto. Nasokari Akimasa is the elder head priest of Jofuku temple. Two of his children are members of the rock band UZ.
Still don't known (or don't remember) number 80 and 90.

Edit: add some more detail.
Bruh, I know kanji and I didn't even stop to think there was a numeric order, lol. I knew all of them had 十 in their surnames for being descendants of Jurota, but I forgot about the other kanji.

Thanks for the neat compilation!

This is what I don't like about the official English translation. They're leaving out the characters of the name on the character profile pages. Once you find out that everyone magically decended from Juurota has the + character, you know you are dealing with one of the guardians of the mountain.

Akou and Unjo's design and the way they talk is so cool!

But this chapter felt rushed, like it could have been two or even three chapters.
Yeah, just a curb stomp battle like when the evil sister possessed Dara-san. No long battle arcs in this title! Still, I really wish we could have seen Original Nagi put the smack down on someone. I bet her battle technique is cool!

Overall it's not that important anyway, since most of the families either didn't have any important roles or already fulfilled their duties. Only three families still maintain their roles: Hatahiro, Misogiya, and Yoinara.

Tomita-san's family does too! The rich girl who's family oversee the other side of the mountain opposite of the Misogiya's.

The thing is, there's nothing left on the east mountain beside Jurota's monument which holds no spiritual value (it's the grave of Jurota and Koharu as a human). The former sealing site of the snake's body was cut off from real world by Dara-san so nobody could access it unless going through her ethereal gate.

Not to diss Tomita family. In the beginning they held very crucial role to the survival of the bloodline, as most families were just poor peasants, a bad harvest could easily snuff them out. But in modern day everyone is already self-sufficient, you could say that their duty is done and dusted.
