My theory: Author-san picked out this story with Sensei a while back, and always knew what plot these chapters would be. He showed chapter 292 to a friend before posting it, and they told him there would be backlash amongst the fans. Author-san panicked, as chapters 290-291 were pretty clearly leading into his planned story and he can't very well swerve from here. So rather than risk upsetting the fans, he put it into reverse and is just redoing the plot.

No, 292 was published and according to people who read it, the story became a big "wut?" moment.

Please don't go inventing backlash that didn't happen.

Quick Summary for the people who are wondering what 292 was about, Sensei starts to freak out cause of the roleplay and Sou does his usual "good guy" routine of immediately lavishing praise on her (after asking Hinata what her first name is, it's Erika) only for Hinata to immediately warn him not to lay it on too thick and overstimulate her because she was also a former escort guard who graduated from that very school.

I can see how the author wrote themselves into a corner with that one because that revelation would also put his own guards on blast when the entire point of the Visitation day was to show that they can be trusted and he's safe at school. If even the teacher who was a former guard herself and alumnae was losing her shit at Sou merely pretending to abandon her and then also giving (to him at least) innocent kind remarks then the rest of the class has no chance.

For comparison, this isn't too dissimilar a situation to Yuri being put in the hot seat to answer a hypothetical from Sou and she had her own inner monologue but managed to recover. Having the teacher crumble is good for variety but bad for story development. The point of this arc is to prove Sou's family "wrong" so to speak so having it fail outright or having it pass only by forcing everyone to be an idiot wouldn't be satisfying.

It was psudo ntr manga but became an actual ntr manga and got axed for it. Need to check it myself to see how bad the author screwed up but i remember the tweets about it at the time were full of hatred towards the author. I want to think of examples but i can't really remember probably because my brain deleted them.

Sounds like Kisa wrote himself into a logic-error in that either the family would have to act OoC and let him stay or Sou would have to become aware of the setting.

Of course I think there is a third path in that Erika could regain control and act like she was acting, maybe admonish Sou for not doing the right thing, but then you still have the family to consider since they actively saw that Sou just doesn't get this world they would inevitably become more protective.

a game-state rewind is probably the only option.

I do believe this timeline was good and could have kept going if the teacher retained some control over her emotions. Have a couple of pages where she's acknowledging that this is just a fantasy, while still struggling with the pretend cucking. Throw a joke about how only a goddess could retain her sanity, all the while Sou believing she's Hollywood-material, eventually convincing to join the drama club, and bam, job done.

Hell, if Erika's performance was actually good enough to convince the family to have her as the main homeroom teacher so that Login Sensei loses her bonus, that'd have been hilarious.

There are ways to salvage this without the save scum, but the issue is preserving the humor. For example, to kep Sou dense, just have him marvel at Erika-sensei's acting skill, which would knock her out of the yandere zone. Then have Hinata remind Sou about the scenario, Erika-sensei realize the danger, then she will claim she lost the mindset for the scene, so can she pick a substitute? Then she asks for a member of the family to do it, since it would protect the school from fallout. But if Kisa felt he couldn't do it, then we should be grateful for the save scumming.
