Lol, Maki pulled a Bocchi :kek:

Pretty slow arc though they skipped some parts early on (mainly the prologue got skipped, Maki's getting a haircut from Umi ), then again I kinda expected it. I wonder how they gonna handle the sports scenes hmmm :thonk:

Les gooooooooo. Of course I know that Umi wants to team up with Maki to win the Japanese Population Crisis Solution event but they can’t enter that until after high school. Bet she wants to start practicing hard soon though. Yuu is going to need to find a partner so she can compete as well unless she plans to be Umi’s back up. Maybe the new girl will be that partner. shipp

I'm surprised Maki didn't feel any sort of connection to Arae, given he was also kind of a loner when the series started. Jumping straight to calling her behavior toward Yuu "mean" when it read as curt and disinterested more than anything felt kind of out-of-character for him, in that sense. Like, all of the group are taking rumors and hearsay about Arae and making their judgments off of that, and I'd expect better, given all of them have dealt with "high school gossip/drama" before in this series, and so this weird shift in them falling for it when it comes to a new "outsider" character reads as kinda contrived.

I just hope Arae gets actual character-writing for her, and isn't treated as a plot device for whatever's going on with Yuu.

It just seemed like she is someone who knows the effect she has on people by not trying to please anyone.

i didn't consider this aspect, you are totally right, they shouldn't focus on rumors
it's also that, you cannot be friend with everyone

So whos going to sew up his sleeve?
Is it his loving GF Umi? The all-rounder Yuu? Dark horse Arae?

Nah, who are we kidding, its gonna be Maki himself of course.

Right. I agree with @Lex79 - it'd be nice if this ended with Yuu learning she can't just be friends with everyone and that some people will just not vibe with you. I want more than anything for one of them (preferably Maki) to learn Arae's circumstances and prove the rumor mill wrong and, but I don't want it to just become a case of "standoffish character gets their personality overwritten and become another blob moe character carbon copy of the rest of the cast". Like, she can be her own person. It'd be great if everyone around her (including the teachers, for fucks' sake) to not treat her as some hostile outcast "undesirable".

But I also won't be holding my breath that the author will have what it takes to make that sort of storyline work. And I worry that Arae is just a vehicle for Yuu's character, which also feels a bit bad because you just know it'll mean Maki gets pulled in and that will just make Umi jealous and that's a song-and-dance that doesn't need a sacrificial "antagonist character" with no other purpose to their inclusion.
