Rei just wants to know what his future sister-in-law is like. He chose terrible timing for that though.
He clearly is trying to help though. He just doesn't realize his brother would misinterpret them having a simple conversation so drastically because Youta doesn't talk to him about his insecurities
So his brother should spend his entire life walking on egg shells around his brother's friends? This is how he gets over the trauma. We can tell by the last panel that she can see something is up. This has happened before in this series idk why people are pretending this isn't his usual cycle. He has doubts, but then she helps reassure him by taking action. Just like how we got a hint that he noticed something was off during their date. She has noticed something is off with him at the end of this chapter. It is now her time to show him that she noticed it.

It was only a matter of time that this happened. The whole dramatic core of the manga has been building up to this encounter. Houjou would usually (albeit unknowingly) push her way past Tohno's trauma and insecurities with how direct she is, so this is truly the first time Tohno's ability to trust her is being tested.
I'm curious to see how this develops, because both Houjou and Rei have no idea about the baggage he's been carrying. But since for the most part Houjou has been carrying the bulk their relationship, the onus is ultimately on Tohno to reject his trauma's lies and believe in the memories and experiences he's developed with her.

Rei is a narrative oxymoron. He LOVES his brother but somehow completely unaware of him forming a literal trauma due to his existence. Of course it not his fault that bunch of harpies using MC to get to him but how can you be so blind despite claiming how much you like the guy?
Instead of FMC, i'm more interested in Rei finding out the hell he is inadvertently putting his brother through

He has not told his brother about his insecurities. His brother loves him so much, but some stuff just isn't obvious. He has kept this chip on his shoulder for so long not showing it to anyone. It was bound to come up at some point. It's a good thing it came up so late into the story, and not super early on. Everything is solidified at this point, and this was a way to make things more interesting to read. Otherwise the plot would go stagnant, and nothing would happen.

i dont really get the hate for conflict sure the same old misunderstanding stuff gets boring but if its done well its great for the story,but then again the leadup to the misunderstanding kinda makes no sense
