misunderstandingslop aside, didn't they literally talk in chapter one?
I think it is more so having a conversation vs saying something in passing. Like if someone stopped you and asked you for directions. You wouldn't say you "had a conversation with them" you feel?

we don't actually see(read) any dialogue/conversation between them. Youta just sees Izumi and Reiya in the same place, and a notebook is being passed between them.
Immediately after a gaggle of schoolgirls trample Youta because they spotted Reiya, and then Izumi appears before Youta, offering him her "favourite handkerchief" to wipe the comedy grime off from being stampeded.

and when Youta asks "why aren't you swarming Rei?", she responds "because you were here", and thus the series kicks off.

But they actually did interact with one another at the very start of the series. It's just that the context of Youta and Izumi getting closer to one another was absent, which is the focus through which Reiya approaches her here and now (after spying his brother leaving school with Izumi from an upper story classroom which clued Rei in to Houjou's importance in Youta's life (with Hasegawa present with him, funnily enough)).

Yeah, so my assumption was she was asking where he is, and not an actual conversation. Hence why he says they have never really talked. More so meaning they have never had a proper conversation that was not just in passing.

Has short form content rotted your brain this bad, or are you just pretending to be obtuse for the sake of discourse? Swear to god you are so pik-a-boo brained that the second something disappears from your screen it's like it never existed in the first place. You seem to be the type of person I would have to jingle keys in front of to keep you from wandering off.
Wow. If my interpretation is so off, why not just provide a logical counter-argument? Instead all you did was spout insults like a toddler. You probably needed AI to help you write it as well.

Just go back and look at the panels in the middle of page 8 and how she was looking at Reiya and blushing. Then look at her clearly non-blushing face on the previous few pages. Reiya caused that reaction in her because on some base level she was attracted to him.

Reiya is used to it so he thinks it’s normal. Houjou has little self awareness and sub-par emotional intelligence so she didn’t realize it. Youta noticed it right away because he’s seen it hundreds of times before.

Youta also approached her to work on something together then she left almost immediately to work on something with his brother instead.

Then she seemed to be having a great time, smiling, blushing more, etc. Rando other students also saw that and thought they looked like a good match that was forming.

More than 200 comments. Damn, you are not happy guys
Damn, the comment just skyrocket
Well we have reached the titular moment in the story, so I’m not shocked at the spike in comments. Plus the debate between whether or not Rei is good brother or not is a fascinating insight to the literacy rate of the users of this site.

the moment you go accusing people of using AI to write comments, you've lost any credibility in the conversation.

Go back and re-read then entire series, and tell me that Houjou doesn't often have "blushing face" when talking with people. it's just her general demeanor and a visual indicator that she's happy; the author actually has differing depictions when specific emotional moments are in play, and the ones that are important to the narrative—like when Houjou realizes she has feelings for Youta back in chapter 34—are distinct from what she's doing here.

If you're having to rely on debasing and disparaging a character in the series in order to argue your point when there's no actual substance to your claim, you've again shown the weakness of your argument. Houjou doesn't have "sub-par emotional intelligence"; she simply behaves differently than most of the other characters, because she's meant to be set apart from them. She marches to the beat of her own drum, more often than not, which is a noteworthy characteristic given this is set in Japan where social individualism isn't the norm.

Youta approached her asking what she was doing when he saw she was seemingly having trouble with the craft project she was working on, and he then helped her finish it. Another student entered the room and asked for anyone who was available to help, and Houjou went to volunteer because her task was complete. We even see her "notice" that Reiya was also part of that group only after having already decided to go over; she didn't go to that group solely because Reiya was there.

It's all there in the series, if you're paying attention. I suggest you re-read it all again, because it's becoming increasingly clear that you've built a narrative in your head around thinking a story's taking place based on some pretty curious biases you hold, and a lot of your accusations aren't being backed up by what the author is portraying.

Right, but their insults were fine? Good to see there’s no bias here and you’re arguing with a level head.

I never claimed that Houjou didn’t have any special feelings for Youta. That’s not mutually exclusive from being physically attracted to Reiya. Both can be true and I think this chapter showed that they both are true.

Reiya is better looking than Youta, that’s a fact. That doesn’t mean she’s going to “swap” to Reiya, it just means she’s not a one dimensional character. As “different” as Houjou is, she’s not blind.

It took her this long to figure out that she had a different kind of interest in Youta and she’s still not sure what that means. She also lacks understanding of how she acts is different in the first place or how it affects others. Case in point: she should have understood that getting closer to Reiya would trigger Youta.

That’s a deficit in emotional intelligence. I wasn’t “disparaging her character”, I was stating fact.

Youta approached her asking what she was doing when he saw she was seemingly having trouble with the craft project she was working on, and he then helped her finish it. Another student entered the room and asked for anyone who was available to help, and Houjou went to volunteer because her task was complete.
If her task was finished, why was Youta still doing it when she left? She could have stayed and actually helped finish what she started, but instead left it for Youta.

We even see her "notice" that Reiya was also part of that group only after having already decided to go over; she didn't go to that group solely because Reiya was there.
Yes, she joined the group of people but then she immediately went to work 1:1 with Reiya. None of the other members of the group needed help or wanted to be paired with the most popular guy in school?

I think I’m reading it the way it was written, but maybe there’s more layers to it and we’re both seeing different parts. That said, I don’t think you’re allowing for the characters to have conflicting thoughts or feelings at the same time.

Although completely unintentional, Reiya has “stolen” every girl Youta ever had feelings for.

Youta’s fears are not his imagination. It’s based on repeated real life experiences over the course of his whole life. He will probably never trust a woman completely without getting therapy (in Japan? lol).

Houjou didn’t do anything wrong, but it was insensitive in hindsight. Again, the lacking emotional intelligence is not helping.

Meanwhile, Youta is witnessing (what he believes to be) his worst nightmare coming true. I’m curious about his next move because in the past he just suffered in silence. This time I think he’s more likely to lash out and it’s going to get ugly.

I think this is natural progression for the story and that it's being told well.

It is literally the title of the manga what is happening right now.

He needs to be able to break his insecurities and this will be a great way to do it.

I think the mangaka properly swayed people's emotions here. Much better than some other mangas out right now.

So your entire argument hinges on Houjou being aware of Youta's problem relating to his dynamic will every girl who tried to use him to get to his brother, yes? And that she's aware of this dynamic but lacks the emotional intelligence to see how her behavior would harm Youta. Also that, even if you say it's "not his fault", Reiya is "stealing" every girl Youta has feelings for.

Can you point out the chapter where Youta discusses this with Houjou and makes it clear what's been going on with him? Because the only people I've found he told are his two friends, related via flashback in chapter 30.

Is Houjou supposed to be a mindreader, then, when Youta's kept the problems he's been having from his own family? Or is she actually oblivious, and you still want to try and make her and Reiya the problem? Because that's what you've spent a lot of time and energy conveying, and you should have maybe tried harder to make your point if your aim was something else.

The reason people are pushing back against you is because you appear to be trying to villainize Houjou and Reiya when they've done nothing wrong. You've made half a dozen comments pointing fingers and making claims that don't bear out because you've cited them sans context, right down to accusing the FL of being something she's not simply because she's not behaving like a mind reader. After all, Youta has been struggling with his feelings the same amount of time, and while the context of his is through the lens of his trauma, his journey toward coming to understand what Houjou means to him has been largely the same, timeline-wise, as hers.

Youta's been keeping his complex incredibly close to the chest, and Houjou is experiencing her first encouter with romantic feelings. Reiya has his own problems, and is in no way responsible or to blame for how Youta's peers choose to act. He didn't "steal" anyone from Youta, because that infers an ownership or entitlement to a person or feeling that is more than a little problematic. He has no awareness because Youta never talked to him about any of it before, so trying to make him at fault in any way is inane.

Call it a "difference of opinion & reading" if you want, but you do have an incredibly uncharitable take on the characters of a series that has no villains and is more about growing up and overcoming trauma than anything involving something so pedestrian as a love triangle.

The previous chapter demonstrated that Rei harbors deep insecurities regarding his brother—possibly stemming from a girl telling him he isn't always perfect, a remark he misinterpreted as something negative. He believes he must be perfect to live up to everyone's expectations and cannot afford to fail at anything; this insecurity could cause him harm later in adulthood. I believe this is why he fails to see the damage his persona inflicts on his brother.
Perhaps this misunderstanding will help both of them—reducing the MC's insecurity around women and helping his brother come to believe that having flaws isn't a problem, that it's natural not to be perfect, and that if he showed his true self, people would still like him.
I apologize for the terrible English; I used Google Translate.
