I've seen it hinted that story would be going places, but it sucks to see that the only solution against connections (prick being a son of a city councilman) are better connections (mom knowing former mayor who's on good terms with current administration).
Kinda realistic in this regard, but still...

Also the domino effect is not quite as unrealistic as the sloppiness and focus on one kid can make it look.

We've seen PMs of other nations fall from "minor disagreements", because every other concern, complaint and investigation (good or bad) suddenly pile onto the usual attack ads to overcome the influence. Sure one particular bit of the story is focused on here, but the author did manage to at least hint that plenty of investigations, opposition research and jilted or bereaved individuals had all just been making their own piles.
