True, the main appeal of the manga is the comeuppance of the scumbags, not the MC and FMC, who are rather bland and boring af. No entertainment value whatsover imo.

Oh and the mom, the way his mom protects her son is also really heartwarming and gratifying to watch.

I get you, but there needs to be a set-up for the payoff, otherwise all the revenge would feel meaningless. So coming back and getting to know the characters and their situation makes the revenge all that much more sweet...
It's just a shame that the MC is just such a bland typical japanese MC, where he's only defining character trait is that he's a 'good dude'.
