All valid points. Maybe he's been conditioned to be subservient, so immediately rejecting her and leaving is hard for him to do. Which if true, is a problem just like his refusal to take a risk and shoot his shot with Reina. It's the classic "overly polite japanese" trope. Can't tell his Aunt "no," can't allow himself to approach Reina romantically, can't tell a woman he just met (who is lowkey aggressive) "no." Just waiting for heaven to reward him for good manners and inaction.
