The issue I have is that he saw Futaba as Mitsuha's child. He was able to keep going and act like a good father because it felt like Mitsuha was loving him back through her. That brings up the question of whether he truly loved Futaba at all. She believed her father was the only person who truly loved her and saw her for who she was, but it was seemingly all fake. If the request was to clean up his mistake, that is even more fucked up.

Wrong name. Mitsuha is Yotsuha's brother. Her mom is Kazuha. When reading your comment I was shocked for a moment that he thinks of Futaba as Yotsuha's brother's child

The way it was framed I think it’s highly likely that he was indeed raped. Drugged specifically. Just because he thought he just got woozy from the booze doesn’t mean there wasn’t something else. Not to mention that getting someone drunk so that they will do something they’d be reluctant to do sober is also rape. He fell for her after the fact but that’s separate.

Also people please stop saying she’s five. At this point she’s in school and Yotsuha has already been gone for some time. I don’t remember how long she’d been gone but it looks like they’re at least 7-8, maybe as old as 10.
