It really recontextualizes everything. I do not condone cheating by any means, but I can see where Futatsugi was coming from when he found the only person who supposedly saw the real him. Wrecking your family for that is unforgivable though. It was a conscious decision he made rather than what we originally thought of him being manipulated and dragged against his will.

The issue I have is that he saw Futaba as Mitsuha's child. He was able to keep going and act like a good father because it felt like Kazuha was loving him back through her. That brings up the question of whether he truly loved Futaba at all. She believed her father was the only person who truly loved her and saw her for who she was, but it was seemingly all fake. If the request was to clean up his mistake, that is even more fucked up.

I feel bad for these kids man. A lot of them are victims of horrible adults, and I think the author is really good at capturing the despair these kids feel from people who are supposed to love them.
