My friend told me a story from his workplace that there was a pair whom were hanging out for like almost a year but when someone asked the girl if they are in relationships she said they are not because the guy has never officially asked her out - my friend said that I should have seen the guys face at that moment. But he got a good elbow from friend in the ribs and asked her right away if she wants to go out with him. She said yes and replied to other girl that "now we are"

So my point is that if he is not sure who they are at the moment he should simply talk with her ask how she feels, and if she is OK with it (which I think she totally is) just formally ask her out. That would be it + the need to decide how they behave at work. Conversation could solve almost all problems and misunerstandings

Yes it is a situationship 100% there isn't a better word to describe exactly what they are. If they have no label for what their relationship is, and they are behaving close. That is a situationship. I am all for shitting on AI but we gotta at least shit on it for valid reasons.

Like, sure, it's not well defined but they kissed once and have been growing closer. Why name it a situationship in the first place? It could be flirting, a slow growth into romance..... Or is situationship a step one must always take before a serious relationship?

I get his need to label it, I know he is anxious about things that were not shown to us yet, but can we really call this a situationship? Like, if you say so, sure. But from what I experienced and what I know of other people it's never that clear or peaceful.

It is explained in the manhwa. A situationship is a relationship that is closer than normal friends, but neither people clearly add a label to it. Because neither of them have set a boundary or defined a line or clearly gave a label to what they are. They are stuck in a situationship until their relationship is given an official label. A situationship also has nuance to it.
