so we really getting ted mosby route with this arc.
friend was right though ... being that good really makes you sick, but there will be a moment when all his repressed anger will escape, hopefully it doesn't f*ck his next relationship

for a sec I thought she was gonna help him release a little stress hahaha
imagine he finally gets the wife and then she dies a few years later

what a wacky chapter. I understood Hiromi's feeling at the beginning, but when Nonoka's friend gave him his reality check, I naively thought that he was gonna take her advice. I felt sick like her. Doormat Hiromi strikes again. But I am still invested. It's still entertaining as hell.

If Mine listens to Hiromi and abides by his request, then she's not really any better than he is in that context, in my mind.

She, and all of the other people who Nonoka, should be free to form their own judgments and act according to their own agency when it comes to how they treat Nonoka. Hiromi being a doormat is his own business; Mine owes him nothing, and certainly doesn't have to do more than acknowledge that he is indeed a doormat.
She proved as much when she told him to cut the pity party bullshit and asserted that he and Nonoka are in no way similar. So my headcanon, whatever else happens, is that she writes off Nonoka, spreads the word to the rest of the friend group as to what Nonoka pulled, and they all are left free to decide whether she's worth interacting with. After all, Nonoka decided that her ex was worth losing her entire support base up to and including her own parents. So it wouldn't even be a surprise if everyone ostracized her.
So if she listens to Hiromi and treats Nonoka nicely and forgives her for such cowardly behavior, then that's Mine acquiescing to being as much a doormat as Hiromi is in letting others decide her actions for her.

I get it's Sasuga's usual shtick to make her male characters this egregiously pitiful, but I really hoped this would be a case of him actually getting angry and lashing out as a result. Instead he's just turned inward and gone "oh woe is me I guess I deserved this" and it's almost insulting just how little he's changing as a character because of it. I thought this would be the point where he'd get fed up with continuously trying & failing at relationships because he keeps doing the same thing expecting a different result, but perhaps Sasuga Kei is not actually aiming for meaningful progression for these characters or for this story.

You can write a trashy melodramatic soap opera that still treats its characters like realistic people, and I'd argue the story would be better for it if they were allowed to do more than have the same reaction every time to bad shit happening to them.
I like most of your analysis of characters you share, but yeah, you expected too much from Sasuga Kei, her level of disrespect for her own creations is too big (specially for males)
Make a new plan bro be a stud lol jk

This chapter almost made me want to join Team Fujiko. Taking a five hour train ride (or a flight) to come comfort the old friend your bestie just dumped is a hell of a gesture.
wait, is that really a gesture for romantic interest?

how could I not see it? goddamn no wonder I suck at love. :lul::facepalm:

Come to think of it.... take a look at these reaction shots every time Hiromi says something she likes.

What are the odds that there will at least be one sixsome scene by the end of the manga? It will never end that way but there will be at least one scene where they all come close to the idea, it'd be such a waste otherwise.

At this point, seems Fujiko is even more of a loyal partner for Hiromi than all the chicks he tried something with. Taking a hell of a (probably) economy class train ride from Wakayama to Tokyo simply to comfort... and confront him with the fact he even has the right to get pissed at his situation and stop acting like a Nice guy™ isn't something a mere friend would do frequently. The closest that one sharemate did that for Hiromi was Yukari, but she mostly did that shit to let her know her wants and needs.

I honestly like the when Fujiko isn't letting pass what her (former) bestie did to him, but also said the others shall make their own conclusions and let them decide if stay friends or not with her. This makes me think people already knew Nonoka had a "caretaker complex", but their feelings about that vary from person to person. And Fujiko seems to be the one with an irreconciliable grudge with that part of Nonoka.

Now, it's up to Hiromi if he applies what Fujiko said... or if he will stay a doormat for the sake of the story continuity. The girls know he isn't alright, but who will be the one that will reach him first... either to console him... or face his bottled up emotions and get a grim grvke trvke thrown at her.

crosding my fingers Anju ends being Hiromi's personal punching bag if he finally lets himself go apeshit and vent his frustration, rage and sorrow, and not Tsubasa like the final page implies. Bitch deserves to hear some grim facts about her actions. After provoking Nonoka into breaking up with Hiromi, she has the fucking audacity to say "i never thought things would turn out like this"... lmao. Mommy issues my ass, she needs to face some consequences

Chapter in a nutshell was this:

I don’t think she came because she had any romantic interest in Hiromi. I think she was genuinely worried that he might harm himself because Nonoka did something so devastating.

Her visit was mainly to help snap him out of his current state, which is pretty self-destructive. She was the only person who could have said what she did because she knows both people involved well. As a reader, she said everything that I wanted Hiromi to hear.

Mayyyybe she has slightly changed how she sees Hiromi after this conversation? It’s hard to say. Honestly though, she seems to be the only person who has their head screwed on straight in this series. I think Hiromi would actually be happiest if he had gotten together with her and worked in the inn’s kitchen. Instant family, stability, granny nearby… which is probably why the author never made that an option  Why let the MC be happy when he can be trapped by the share house premise?

I know Nonoka couldn't stay long within the story but I wish it was done in a more clean way. Something like "I realised I have attachments I haven't let go off so I'm going to work on myself" the way it ended for her just ruins her character imo.
