I wouldn't say remove, but I would prefer if she was toned down. Her gag of causing Weiss suffering is getting stale for me, and I feel like she runs the risk of it becoming her defining character trait. I'm more than happy having her be a demon instructor, but having her knock Weiss down whenever he starts feeling accomplished is just not fun. Use the joke more sparingly, and she'd be a more appealing character.
They should definitely use it more sparcely and for training-related things. I don't see the appeal of every non-action scene inevitably getting interrupted by her, or her not just being a spartan teacher, but a plain psycho who goes ballistic over petty stuff like the management of a fucking student maid cafe.

You sound like a reddit / Twitter idiot for taking a throwaway silly gag too seriously

You sound like a reddit / Twitter idiot, mentelly ill for unironically using woke  and like a clueless moron since you clearly don't know shit about Japan and LGBT, it's not this conservative utopia you morons imagine, normally I would say educate yourself but we all know you morons pride yourself in being uneducated, it's why you all fall for the moronic culture war to begin with after all

It's always fascinating how both sides are able to sound equally stupid with difference that one sounds mentally ill too

Edit: also, US had a blue wave so buckle up culture war idiots and start choosing your pronouns and get ready for your government mandated sex change cause woke is winning :pepela:
Have you been to Japan? Have you ever lived in Japan? I have for over two years as a Black man. It is really conservative as a nation in a lot of ways countries like America have NEVER been. The people themselves are outwardly very kind, but also very unfamiliar with diversity and challenging ideas. Japanese society itself pushes for a more homogenous group and against speaking out or standing out in anyway. There's a lot of xenophobia built into the nation and following global trends politics are making it worse as more and more political figures win out blaming everything on foreigners and immigrants, which is something Japan is going to have to confront (including how they choose to assimilate the immigrants they think are good) because they have one of the worst birth rate and marriage rate declines in the world. They don't have that long to get over their xenophobia. Beyond that though the nation just does a lot of "glossing over" of modern progressive movements and many groups. Politically they still refuse to acknowledge and teach the bad parts of their history like how poorly they've treated Korea and other nations during imperialism, or everything with the indigenous people in Hokkaido, or a lot of the worst working conditions and other problems. Japanese society is also very hierarchical focused on age and experience which leads to so many problems in the workplace. They are incredibly openly sexist and racist as well. Not prejudiced and misogynist (a lot of people are that as well but I don't know people who openly were and I won't comment on what we've all seen online), because racism and sexism refer to institutions. They refer to how the nation itself is setup and are systematic. The buzz words get thrown around too much. When actively using the terms and saying something is racist you're saying some THING is racist, not a person. It's not an insult but an observation. Japan is racist and sexist. So is America. The biggest difference is that Japanese culture is 1) not used to ethical diversity and 2) even more not used to diversity of opinion. It is part of Japan's culture to not speak out, not go against the group, and be like everyone else.

On the topic itself, legalized gay rights are still a very recent thing and actually not really a thing. Unlike the USA where something being declared unconstitutional makes it the law of the land, that doesn't happen in Japan. There needs to be changes passed in the Diet for that and despite courts ruling that banning same sex marriage is unconstitutional, that hasn't happened. Japan still doesn't have legal protections or laws to legally recognize same sex marriage. That's not a judgment, it's a fact and observation.

Another observation is that Japan IS conservative. Along with every other political term turned into a meaningless buzz word is that one. We haven't had actual political conservatism in the USA in a while. Not a long while, but a long enough while for the internet to lose its mind. Conservative isn't necessarily bad or unethical. It isn't trampling over people's rights, getting into a hussy over pronouns (something everyone has), and trying to control constitutionally protected civil rights by ignoring the rule of law and abusing power. They are actually separate issues with being conservative becoming a smokescreen to uphold racist & sexist and homophobic institutions that keep the people in power in power and those beneath them squabbling over being recognized as humans. For example Japan again, courts have already consistently ruled that banning same sex marriage goes against their constitution & framework of government. By their interpretation it wouldn't be going against conservatism to add legal protections that better clarify what is already in their constitution. They chose not to for separate reasons.

This is something that actually really grinds my gears. Here is Webster's definition of political conservatism: "a political philosophy based on tradition and social stability, stressing the importance of established hierarchies and institutions (such as religion, the family, and class structure), and preferring gradual development to abrupt change."

That is Japan to a freaking T. There's no debating it. Japan is so heavily based around tradition and a homogeneous social structure. It's built into the core of basically every work of fiction made. Hierarchies are known to be incredibly important in Japanese culture as is family structure and ages and class structure. The nation is very slow to make social change. Japan's policies push incoming immigrants to assimilate into Japanese culture and ensure the preservation of traditional Japanese ideals, culture, and beliefs. The nation is so conservative that American "conservatives" would probably lose their minds. Japanese people are incredibly nice and welcoming (at least of American foreigners (though being Black they were constantly shocked to see I exist in person in a way that my White acquaintances didn't experience). Like all nations, younger generations are far more progressive. But there is still a lot of ignorance because so much is ignored on a national level. Schools avoid controversial subjects all together and a lot of Japan's not so well recieved history. Actually if you're ever in Japan (maybe again, I don't know you) go visit South Korea. You'll immediately get flashbanged by one nation telling you of all the terrible things Japan did to oppress them during imperialism vs another that never brings it up.

This isn't about this chapter or the author. I'm not expecting nuanced depictions of groups of people when a fujioshi was teased as the next antagonist stirring up trouble. Not what I came here for, not what I care about. This also isn't passing judgment on Japan. That's not my job nor my right. There are some amazing pride parades and other demonstrations in Japan with people fighting for better protection of LGBTQ+ rights. But yes lmao, Japan is a conservative nation. By definition they are. They are still have a lot of trouble with all the isms (like all nations do) and don't currently have all the legal protections for same sex marriage and gay rights that those people deserve. That's just reality. There's no comparative list that says, "Well it's not as bad as people say online or other countries have these problems too, so it's not a problem."

Wouldn't have expected transphobic/homophobic caricatures from this manga. Weird choice of throwaway gag.
They could've had that upperclassman that ships Weiss and Allen show up instead.
"Okamas" in Japan are a thing. And they... aren't all necessarily THAT flamboyant, some people even actively like them and show them as pretty cool people in their works. They're something of Japan's equivalent to a drag queen. So not fully "caricatures", much less done necessarily with Transphobic/homophobic undertones.

...but it does read weird when, for example, we get things like this without much elaboration, and the takeaway becomes "they wanted to see a cute boy looking girly". Since whatever cultural context they might have to take it as both "a seemingly dangerous situation" and "a silly gag where nothing is actually going to happen" reads much more malicious to us.

Point being, there's at least SOME additional context beyond what we have here in the west to see, regardless if it was done maliciously or not. And I do agree it is frustrating that they decide to use it as a gag, though probably the original material didn't really give much elaboration either besides implying Okamas went to enjoy looking at pretty boys in pretty clothes...not like that makes it better.

In other news, they really should have thought about better maid outfits for all the boys. Weiss and Allen and the other blonde dude at least looked decent, but they really didn't even try to bring the charm out almost anyone. What a wasted opportunity, specially for Milk who seemed to have an actual plan for the boys in them.

No this is not a joke. For how extra this series goes, seeing them look like they're supposed to look like shit actually frustrates me, somewhat. Would even use it to support the idea that the author might not have had the best intentions with having okamas/drag queens visit the cafe while they had those on.

I use neither website. You unironically sound like a user of both saying that.

Actual bigotry actively detracts from the joke; at least for me personally.
Like, you understand that they could've done the same gag without the outdated caricatures, right?
It's like if the Rayearth remake didn't remove that one notorious Presea scene; it'd stick out as weird, racist, and bizarrely outdated.

Not that this manga has ever had stellar writing or art, but some kinda standards somewhere would be nice.

I also still think it'd be funnier if they'd had the senpai that ships Weiss-x-Allen show up & pay some ridiculous amount for the two of them.

Nanjing in China has got a museum with photos from that time. Korea had it worse so they're not gonna let go but mentality in mainland and Taiwan has gotten a bit more tempered compared to previous years.

I feel like he'd have won either way, but since most of the male students were pretty boys, this was a forgone conclusion...

Milk will win the Weissbowl. Honestly he doesn't have much of a say in the matter.
