toughness usually gives you +1 hp per level (you can take it at any level, and it continues to increase, so at level 20 you get +20 hp, even if you took toughness at level 1), and used to lead to other feats that did stuff like give you damage reduction. Also, iirc it's a bad idea to multiclass...
