About the joke, 所望 is shomou, not shoumou, and is a -suru verb, so it doesn't work too well.
It's probably connected to 消耗品 - consumable("exhaustable") goods - which the potion definitely is.

Couples calling one another using san or chan seems to be more a personal choice than anything.

Probably the original Japanese used "kansatsu" instead of "miru", and as Vsmit said there's a difference of intent. In Japanese the intent and use might be more distinct than in English, so you really will only hear the first used in a "you're a test subject" kind of context.

@Darthskippy The Japanese what? The guy clearly states he isn't a sorcerer (exorcist, whatever), in his overly polite way. It's not like you have to be one to use magic in this story.
Also, it's "That cat" (creepy cat), not "This cat". あの is for something far away from you...not that it helps...
