I get the sense it wasn't selling amazingly well. The first volume had some bookstore-exclusive promo cards, which weren't offered for the second. Ogawa also wrapped up the novel series in January, so it sort of lost the secondary incentive for it to keep people engaged between novel releases...

The kidnapping attempt by Gendo spies takes place in chapter 8 and the scene where Diode brings up the possibility of leaving FBB marks the start of chapter 11, which is the last one but really long.
