Yes, I've read the novel and it's even more anti-climatic there. Honestly, I would suggest staying away from the novel entirely. Scenes jump around all over the place and the characters are EVEN MORE shallow than the manga. At least here you have nice art to look at.

If you go back to the chapters were Kate is talking about her childhood, the nanny explains Kate was in her mom's womb for 50 years before finally being born.
