I'm really glad that kazuhiro is worrying about his lifespan in comparison to marie's, too many stories ignore the implications of a immortal elf and a human being in a relationship (which is funny since tolkien solved this as elves marry for life, which also means they normally die of heartbreak when their spouse dies).

Honestly, that feels extreme. I never thought about it at the time back when I read LotR, but man, that feels wrong.

After all, humans have been dealing with this for as long as they've existed - whether outliving your parents (expected), outliving your spouse and friends (always possible), outliving your children (tragic), or even at the lowest end of that scale, outliving your pets (expected and tragic), outliving your loved ones is just something that will happen.

Tolkien deciding the elf side of a couple always dies of heartbreak because he dislikes the notion of the elf moving on and remarrying that much is kind of rubbish of Tolkien.

If parting is inevitable, then you want the other side to be happy that they were with you for as long as that was possible, and to keep being happy after you're gone.

Problem is, Marie would probably outlive even her children with Kazuhiko (unless there is some special case).

I mean, Marie is an Elf, while her children would be Half-Elf (most likely, unless there is percentage chance of pure-blood being born between mixed-race couples).

And in most series, Half-Elf's have shorter life-span than normal Elf (usually the difference is by half, aka., if an Elf lives for 500 years, an Half-Elf would live for 200-300 years).

Well, there are series like "My Slow Life after 120 Years" were mix race couples are specifically discouraged because of the life-span difference.
While there are series like "Realist Hero" were MC does talk with two of his wives (Dark Elf & Ryu Girl) to move on with their life after he dies, as they would live for over 500+ years.
