Hey hey, more importantly: If he did bail, the story would be either normal or over.

If those are the stakes, and his moral calculus, then I kinda don't care how wonewy he's afraid of being, just like I don't care how equally afraid of losing Maiko the girlfriend is, or how low Maiko's self-esteem is due to trauma - I'm just not going to be able to emotionally/sympathetically connect when we start talking about excuses to bring a baby into an abusive situation.

Probably not a reaction the author was counting on, and that's fine.

I dunno if we'll be asked sooner rather than later to start caring about all of them, or if the designed appeal is one like a slasher movie for feelings, "Watch and laugh as they hurt each other," but I'm already at "Nah."
I get that this is probably catnip for some demo of people that like being denied/cucked/humiliated, and to those folks, I say godspeed. I'll pass my time with something fucked in a different way, or way more wholesome.

I think because the guy isn't actually with the girl, instead she's a lesbian in a relationship already and her girlfriend she wants him to have sex with hates his guts. So it cones down to a woman just exploiting the guy's unrequited feelings.

The other girl in that manga is at least nicer and she isn't the main girl's lesbian lover. But the main girl seems actually a bit more dark than Maiko in this one. More mysterious but she exploits the guy more and is a lot harsher when he gets limp dick.

Probably b/c of the fucked up story behind it as opposed to "this is meant to be a hentai one shot for fetish fuel", as well as whatever is happening in okaeri papa, but i can totally imagine some mangaka making a 'barely disguised fetish' series where the story is like "I will make one prove their love/constantly test them" (which is like a shitty partner thing/red flag but i'm sure it'd be appealing for some ppl to read)

Well, right off the bat they sure as hell established what we're dealing with.

A central cast of 3 characters who are all equally fucked up in their own ways. A perfect spiraling circle of this is not going to end well. Each of them self serving and using one another for a need that they desperately want which will likely devolve into some twisted drama where nobody will truly be happy but all of them will delude themselves into filling their emptiness with the immediate pleasure that they have, all at the behest of a truly crazy woman.

But that's just a guess.
