Since Allen is only now about to reclaim a fortress, I don't think they realize they're bound to lose. Yeah their army has taken some heavy hit, but breaking her could theoretically even things back up, if not create a powerful hostage tool. War isn't so simple that a few heavy losses is all it takes to end the fighting and break out the white flags, especially when pride enters the mix.

Think about it this way, each lie was likely over the span of multiple days or weeks, so each lie wears her down a little bit more because of their plausible reality, hearing her only hope may have died in an equally plausible fashion is just the final nail in the coffin because, even if it's false, she's still left with the haunting "what if" that plagues her thoughts as those are all the companionship she has. You can tell this is the case because they only seem to say anything to her when doing something like bringing her next meal. The problem is that psychological torment is tough to depict without overdoing or under doing it.
