But what other option was there?

If they got Hijiri, they were screwed, if they got Akito they were even more screwed, the fighter of the enemy is weakened, the girl clearly is a support type that isn't incredibly proficient in direct fighting, and Arumi already has exhausted her reserves too, so she can't use her ability.

It isn't like most people are like Kazuya, who can energise a lot of tsukumogami at the same time, so it isn't like they can just use Arumi either.

Unfortunately, Hijiri has a very noticeable weakness, in this situation this is the best outcome, as long as she and Akito can rescue Arumi.

Yeah, the biggest problem, imo, is that this is a monthly. A 6 chapter flashback released over 7 months heading to an already revealed conclusion, especially in an arc lacking the MC, is going to drag like crazy.

I can see why you'd think that, but I feel there's a couple of plot holes/loose ends left to tie up before we're close to an ending.

We got a see if there's a way for Kazuma to actually utilize his Asmogi creating abilities, we also got a see what the inside world in the time barrier is like. We also need to see the effects of having 2 God shards close to one another.
