Not really complacency; just poor decision making. He's probably only used that minigun in a single airsoft match, and then was kicking himself for spending so much money on it because it wasn't practical as a man-portable weapon and ultimately didn't help him secure victory. Now, he's used it here because he figured he needed a BFG and has realized... it's not practical as a man-portable weapon and ultimately didn't help him secure victory.

A battle rifle like the FAL or even the M14 would've been a better choice. From a dramatic perspective, the best choice would've been the FAL: The Right Arm of the Free World.

My point was mainly this should be the end, though we know it wont be. Author is just trying to use a cheap death fake out to build tension. A very poorly thought through decision.
