i read it on mangaup and i was sad that arsenyo chose. it would be better for the triangle to be longerrrrr, because it was hilarious. though i respected his decision

At least they legitimately have a reason for the genderswapping with magic.

I remember in the mangaup translation when Rei was talking about her reaction to finding out her birth gender, Her reaction was "I knew it" instead of "half agreed right away, and half couldn't believe it". I like both readings, but I think I like this one a little bit more since I think it fits Rei's character a bit more.
I also respect Arsenio's decision, because he did give the genderswap an honest try, and it's okay to arrive at the answer of "I want to go back."

I feel like they are trying to convey something that doesn't work on a setting where sex exchange magic is very doable and so simple they have literlly played with it on previous arcs.

i think on an analogy level it maps pretty well onto rl. she only has the luxury of switching sexes so easily because she's surrounded by some of the strongest witches in the world. irl there are places you can go where you can play with gender and ppl will respect it.

but thats not something rei could have had in hyperborea, she had to leave the country to feel free enough to accept herself as a woman. now she wants to bring that feeling of freedom back with her
