They seem to be pushing that every Hero is inherently "Talented" and end up with self assured smugness and self-aggrandizement. So the idea of someone they see beneath them managing to defy them for this long in a martial combat is probably a personal insult.

In other words, the dude's being childishly petty to someone he- for all intents and purposes- should just see as a mysterious, "Talented" little girl. Though, probably also taking out some anger for killing that Knight dude he looked up to when he was younger.
