Eh, it can be seen as selfish because he wants someone to love him without even mentioning loving them back. I think we all went through a phase when we wanted to be loved without doing anything to earn/deserve that love, just be pampered. It is just an immature approach, selfish as described, but not necessarily "evil". But that mentality can, at least in the real world, lead to one becoming an incel, if they never mature and start blaming others for not loving them. That is the point when that innocent but pathetic selfishness does become evil.
