She's actually safe, we get a better preview of her in the Spear Hero spinoff manga.
Well let's she has her own things. She is an eccentric one. Granted I think they are going to skip the new deadly sins arc that the web novel had. So some of her eccentrics are going to be cut out. Since we already have raff.

On a side note who else when reading the web novel think that the worms looked more like giant caterpie? Show of hands everybody.

sometimes i forget this is a series about glorifying slavery
Not sure how you think it's glorifying slavery, when all it's doing is showcasing how MC is basically rescuing people subjected to slavery and giving them a better life. He is also basically thinking about their future with how he is training them, as it's been mentioned before he plans to release them from slavery before leaving the World, and so wants to set those kids for the future.

Well there are people who might complain that he doesn't release them from slavery immediately, but it's because of his own mental/traumatic issues as well.
Aka., he can't blindly trust people, so uses the Slavery Crest as a means of having a peace of mind without the fear of being betrayed.
And in the case of those kids, it's also to legally protect them while they are weak, because to the public he owns them.

I know some would see my comment as glorifying slavery. But we have to remember that every aspect in life has two sides, just like Weapons which can be used to kill people in cold blood or protect people from harm. It depends on the user of the weapon. In the case of Shield Hero, he is basically using the weapon of slavery as a means of protection and future development.

(Going to also add for those who might complain, I come from a country which has history of being enslaved for over eight centuries by other kingdoms & nations. So I do know and understand about the negative aspects of it as well.
But just because of that i won't write-off a story without understanding it's core point, since there are many other series which actually glorify slavery, and compared to them what Shield Hero does is quite tame)

So, here we are, we are entering in the (in)famous “What-the-Actual-Fuck” arc of the light novel.

Another bothersome character to kick Naofumi ass around like some errand boy.

Didn't they say in previous chapter the threat of other huge ass mythical monsters is imminent? We lost that urgency, huh?

Why does she need another sword? What's wrong with using that hero weapon? And where did the plot go? Is this a slice of life now ?

Historically, not ever slave was treated horribly. This was commonplace in the US but farther back into even the antiquity, slaves were extremely valuable and treated with care. Working adults didn't grow from trees after all and only the super rich heavily abused them like you'd see with most cartoonishly evil manga villains. In fact, a lot of people advocating for slavery used the argument that "slavery isn't all bad because we don't all treat them horribly" for thousands of years.

The problem with slavery isn't """just""" the fact that some slaves get abused, it's that the entire system undercuts human rights and turns people into objects. This is magnitudes worse in isekai's like this, where it isn't a longstanding abusive system of dehumanization but a full blown magic which deprives a human being of all of their rights effective immediately. There is no "out". All of Naofumi's slaves are indentured to Naofumi for all eternity unless Naofumi let's them free.

The argument that Naofumi is justified in having slaves because of trust issues and because he doesn't hurt them IS glorifying slavery. It's an unjustifiable offence and even saying "but in some cases it's okay" is a slippery slope in promoting something. Raphtalia's case was a best case scenario, she was near as hell dead and Naofumi was at his lowest mentally, even then, she wouldn't have been there if slavery wasn't a thing to begin with. The other kids Naofumi takes in are much worse, because they became slaves as a direct consequence of Naofumi taking in Raphtalia and skyrocketing the value of beast children. And it's a literal plot point that Naofumi regrettably tries his best to take in as many as he can to "save them". Furthermore, the argument that he has trust issues at this point in the story is like, irrelevant? They are children, what are they gonna do to Naofumi? Bite him in the hand? And he could've still been a protective patron by telling others he made them slave but not actually doing that, lying is an option here.

Last but not least. This would be okay, if Naofumi was showed to be in the wrong at any given point in the story or if he ultimately tried to abolishing slavery in the long-term by crashing the market or some shit. But that is the farthest from the case. He is praised for "saving the children and giving them a new life" and is literal friends with a slave trader. You cannot get closer to portraying slavery in a positive light if you tried.

stupid trivia: on last page, "pique" in french means "sting".
so for me, all i'm seeing is her saying "does this sting your interest?" while putting ahead a syringe, and it automatically double the rizz

I can't help but feel you're missing a fundamental part of the problem here though. If Naofumi simply released them immediately, what would befall these children? They have no homes or family to return to, the slavers razed their village and killed all the adults. They have no survival or business skills, on account of being literal children. Simply releasing them without taking the time to prepare them would be signing their death warrant at best, and setting them up to just be recaptured at worst. The entire point of keeping them as slaves for now is both that they will integrate with the various bonuses from Naofumi's Shields (improved growth, instant assessment of any health problems or injuries, basically a GPS tracker from the crest), and because the Slave Crest is something that not just anyone can undo, it is preventing them from falling into the hands of far more unsavory folk. It's easy to just claim he should just free them but Shield Hero's world has repeatedly shown us the solution to problems like this needs more forethought.
