Wahoo! Time for a new chapter! According to Kawano-sensei, the end of chapter 5 was a temporary climax on Karina and Reshutoka's relationship. But I'm sure we'll see more of their troubles in the future.
We also got a date for volume 1 release! September 16th! I know that I will be doing everything in my power to get a copy and ease access for other people. Yuri manga, especially yuri manga not in a yuri magazine, need all the help they can get. With everyone's help, I know we can make this one a success!
Now onto the chapter! Based on what that noblewoman said, it seems like everyone believes Karina dead. But there's something important at play here. The only person that even uses her name is her mother, masking as a servant. Though she's clearly in mourning veil. Everyone else just calls her "the former princess to be". As though that were just a role being cast by someone of no character.
This plays into the conflict that we saw in chapter 4, where Karina believed Reshutoka only saw her as "the princess from her story book". Karina herself didn't matter; what mattered was the role that she filled.
The amount of censorship going on is quite something as well. Eve getting a crash course into how nations guide narrative for themselves and for the historical record. For such a vast empire, such a blemish of "poor decision making" must be scrubbed out in its entirety. Which explains why the prince was all too happy to assassinate her. To complete the expunging.
It seems Eve is a beastkin, either from or related to Reshutoka's village and shares her love of books. Though their reasons for doing so are different, the comparison is unavoidable here. The village her family emigrated from seems much more into the preservation of books so it's hard to say that the lack of a library system is why they left or more of the village's animosity towards books in general.
With Karina's ghost rumored to be in the capital, I'm wondering if she'll be brought on board into the plot. I think it's cute how her big hat helps masks her ears but I can't imagine how stressful it has to be for her as beasts are definitely not viewed favorably.
