You know it's fiction that nothing happened. There's this barrier that prevents the characters do an actual sexual activity, replacing it with heavy, unrealistic amount of blushing and flustering. It's like they're scared the moment they have sex suddenly the bug planted in their heart crushes it just like in your typical wuxia or the collar on their neck explodes just like in AiB.

There are metal conditions that can account for this actually. OCD; if it manifests as avoiding mixing things unnecessarily; can lead individuals to be extremely reticent about sexual relations.
